Sandhill Shooting Sports is proud to announce its selection as the official host range for a newly forming Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) team. This partnership aims to provide youth in Kershaw County and the surrounding Midlands region with a safe, structured environment to develop firearm proficiency, teamwork, and leadership through competitive shooting.

The Scholastic Action Shooting Program, a flagship initiative of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), is the fastest-growing youth shooting sport in the nation. Designed for student-athletes from elementary school through college, SASP focuses on "speed shooting" at steel targets. Unlike many traditional youth sports, SASP offers a level playing field where no one is "benched," emphasizing personal growth, discipline, and sportsmanship.

"We are thrilled to bring the SASP experience to our community," said Sherra Scott, owner of Sandhill Shooting Sports. "Our facility is dedicated to promoting safe and responsible firearm ownership, and there is no better way to ensure the future of the sport than by investing in our youth. By hosting this team, we’re helping young athletes build confidence and life skills that will serve them far beyond the firing line."

Located just off I-20 in Lugoff, Sandhill Shooting Sports offers an outdoor shooting environment, including pistol lanes, 100-yard rifle lanes, and two training bays that are ideal for SASP’s rimfire and centerfire disciplines. The range’s commitment to safety and instruction makes it a natural fit for the program’s rigorous standards.

The newly formed team is currently seeking student-athletes (grades 5 through college) and adult volunteers to serve as coaches and mentors. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in local, state, and national championships, and may even qualify for college scholarships through the SSSF.

Weekends are getting busier for us with the addition of the dedicated training bay for the drill sergeant academy students, plus the need for ROs for classes and occasional special groups, our guys are getting burned out! Almost every weekend we need 3 range officers, and some weekends we need 4! Yes, we just hired one a little over a month ago - he's still here. I tried to hire two more, but one didn't pass the background check (insert eye roll) and the other didn't bring the paperwork back. Sometimes, what you think is a problem with the firearm turns out to be a problem with the ammo. Customer brought his pistol in because he couldn't get the slide to rack. We used our "specialty tools" to get it unstuck. Inspected the chamber & the round. Turns out it was the round. All the other ammo passed the "plunk test".

Effective IMMEDIATELY. Until further notice NO SHOTGUNS ALLOWED. The vegetation is D-R-Y. Hot shotgun wads started 3 small fires on the range today. They were quickly extinguished, but we will not be allowing shotguns until we get some decent rain.
