Butler Bulldogs Vintage Base Ball Club

Butler Bulldogs Vintage Base Ball Club Unlike today’s modern baseball team, vintage clubs play with their bare hands. The ball is pitched underhand. Team captain is Michael Drockton of rural Butler.

Vintage base ball — historically spelled in two words — is baseball played by the rules and customs of the 19th century, specifically recreating America’s favorite pastime as played between 1860 and 1865. Fair or foul balls caught on one bounce are considered outs. The players, many of whom have colorful nicknames, dress in period-correct uniforms and caps. The Butler Bulldogs consist of local res

idents and amateur athletes whose love of baseball and affection for the history of their community is strong. Butler High School was merged in 1963 with Bellville as part of the consolidation of schools to form the Clearfork Valley Local Schools. Until that merger, Butler’s athletic teams were known as the Bulldogs.

The newly formed Butler Bulldogs played their inaugural base ball match today against the Mohican Rivermen. While the rain dampened the field it didn't dampen the spirit, and the Bulldogs were victorious, 9-3. Looking forward to 2018.
