This. Right here. This is the goal.

This photo represents hours of practice, repetition, drilling, focus, discipline, and dedication. It’s the result of students showing up week after week, pushing through frustration, learning from mistakes, and refusing to quit when things get hard.

This is what training kids in karate is all about. Not just punches and kicks, but building confidence, perseverance, respect, self-control, and the mindset to keep improving even when progress feels slow.

Moments like this are earned, not given. And as instructors, getting to watch students grow into stronger, more capable versions of themselves is one of the greatest rewards of teaching.

Thank you so much for sharing this photo with us Jeannine and Josh!

This week our Bushido code words are Honesty and sincerity.

We can talk a lot about how Honesty means telling the truth and sincerity is meaning what you say, but more importantly, how do you show it? As Karateka who follow the bushido code, our deeds should be just as important as our words. Our actions should be more powerful than any spoken word. In the end, if we say we will do something there should be on question as to if it will be done.

We should always own up to our actions no matter if they are good or bad. Do good without looking for praise and accept the fall our willingly if we do bad. Being open about out mistakes and working to improve from them is also part of Integrity. The smith does not cast away a piece of steel because if has a flaw. They rework it and improve it. We all have flaws that can be improved, be open to the rework. Improve your integrity.

Be honest in your dealings with all things and let your integrity show.

Our Bushido Code word this week is Honor.

There are many ways you can show honor. You can honor someone for their deeds; you can honor traditions. Bowing when you enter the dojo or leave, following the rules. This all shows honor.

We focus on showing honor a lot in the martial arts. We bow when we train, we bow when we compete. This week I want you to focus on how you bring honor on yourself. How your deeds bring you honor. When you are a good and honorable person this adds to your honor, also it adds to the honor you show your parents and family. If you have not seen the original Disney Cartoon Mulan you should, if for any reason just so you can learn how to not dishonor your family or your cow. For just as good deeds bring honor on you and your family, bad deeds bring dishonor.

Our parents spend a good portion of their lives teaching us to be good people, you come to the dojo and learn more about honor there and how to act. What you do in the world reflects on all of us

Hey Parents,

Shihan and I are gauging interest in a Parent Awareness Seminar. The goal is to give parents practical tools to better protect and guide their children at home and in everyday situations.

Topics may include situational awareness, recognizing warning signs, helping kids avoid becoming targets, online safety, and family protection strategies.

If there’s enough interest, we’ll move forward with developing the full curriculum and scheduling a date.

Please let us know if this is something you’d be interested in!

Thank you
