Kentucky State University has won a $2 million grant to invest in Eastern Kentucky's people and land. Over the next four years, a new training center will teach about 1,000 local residents the skills to restore old minelands and put them back to work, with hands-on fieldwork in Martin County. It's a real investment in the coalfields' future, led by Kentucky's only public land-grant HBCU. Friends of Coal is glad to see it.
