A 🏐 defensive drill with unlimited possibilities!!!

Beginner (shown in video) ✅

Get used be being stopped when ball is hit, then “turn and burn” to the ball!

Intermediate ✅

Add a short ball off the box!

Advanced ✅

Add a normal hit!!!

Eventually get to the point when defenders can dig an attack, pursue deep, or pursue short!!

✌️ Quick Tips to Hit the GO 🏐

Take first step before set ✅

Hitters should start their approach BEFORE the ball is set! Based on how high the jump, this might vary slightly but a good rule of thumb is the hitter should have TWO STEPS remaining on setter contact!

Hips face the SETTER on takeoff ✅

When the hitters jumps, their hips should be into the court so they can open up, get their elbow back, and create power 💪

A Daily Progression in our 🏐 gym!!!

When bouncing balls (first 4 swings) make sure coaches are putting the ball up around the hitters shoulder level, we are trying to stand upright and use our momentum to create power through our swing 💪

When attacking live the hitters are only using their last two steps but adding a huge double arm lift!!!

This 6-8 ball progression takes about 2-3 minutes a day in our gym. We love it for loosening up and tweaking our arm swing technique!

3️⃣ Quick Tips to Improve your Passing 🏐

👀 eyes stay on one level (or as best you can!). Try to start in a position where your head won’t shoot up or drop down on the contact of the serve. You want your eyes/head moving as little as needed!

💪 arms start out and focus on one angle to the target. Eliminate “swinging” your platform thru the contact of the ball.

👣 feet move lightly and take a few steps as possible!

The BEST PASSERS make it look EASY 😊

Whether you are passing a BOMB 💣 OR CUPCAKE 🧁… you want your passers to move lightly and methodically.

Pay attention to the eyes 👀 staying on one plane, the arms 💪 out on contact, and the feet 👣 not taking extra steps!!!

Think about how much time we spend with YOUNG PLAYERS teaching them how to attack. We breakdown footwork, use teaching devices, and let them learn at their pace.

Then, around 14-16 years old, blocking becomes a part of the game but we rarely teach it the way we would an 8 year old to hit! BUT WE SHOULD!!!

Blocking is one of the least developed skills in the game because it’s introduced later in a players career but typically isn’t broken down nearly enough!

In our gym we do a DAILY controlled blocking drill like this to help our players continue to grow and understand the skill of blocking 🙌

🙌 Blocking GO is GOOFY FOOTED 👣

For righties, the footwork to block GO is RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT!!!

Learning this footwork is challenge for a lot of players especially if they have played on the left side.

The same keys apply as an approach:

2nd step is biggest, accelerate throughout, land on ✌️ feet ( arms up is specific to blocking tho )
