Louisville gets BULLDOZED on the road by Tennessee. The Cards led just and looked in a daze all night. Without Mikel Brown Jr, the Cards struggled mightily on offense. Louisville shot a FLOUNDERING 7/34 from Downtown.

What can I say? Yikes. Truly a brutal performance on all ends from Louisville. With the news of Mikel being out, we knew the task for this team had gotten much tougher, but my goodness. The Cards looked lost out there from the first 8 minutes of the game on. From guys getting lost on switches causing easy paint points to a barrage of bad turnovers, this team looked timid and unsure of themselves. Tennessee’s length and aggressiveness once again made Louisville look foolish.

Here’s the worry for me going forward. With that loss, outside of maybe Duke, UNC and Baylor, Louisville does not have many Q1 opportunities left for the remainder of the year. Wins that we all thought looked good a few weeks back do not look that way right now. This team will easily make the Tournament, but a shaky resume will once again put them in a sticky situation when it comes to seeding and draws come March. Tonight was crucial for many reasons and instead of the Cards seizing the opportunity, it fell flat on its face. Truly a sad showing. Potentially the worst game of the PK era so far.

Cards are back at Saturday against Montana. Noon tip from the Yum.

TENNESSEE BREAKDOWN:
Tennessee comes into this game on a 3-game skid, but they are still one of the best all-around teams in the nation and the Cards will need to be at their best tonight in a tough environment. The Volunteers start with strong, intense, and physical defensive play, consistently ranking among the top of the nation for defensive efficiency. They stay active in forcing turnovers and forcing tough shots.

Louisville needs to start off playing physical, and matching Tennessee down low. Louisville also needs to limit transition chances off turnovers, force Tennessee to shoot from behind the arc, and keep the vols guards from getting downhill.

KEYS TO VICTORY:
• Protect the ball: Limit Turnovers, Make Simple Reads, and Minimize Bad shots.
• Control Tempo: Push while keeping Tennessee from dictating pace and keep them guessing.
• Win The Glass: Finish possessions and limit Tennessee from getting second-chance points.
• Keep Tennessee on their Toes: Use screens, keep the ball moving, and keep Tennessee guessing for what’s coming.
Final Thought and Score Prediction:
I believe this game will be tight and the Cards will have a solid chance to win if it limits turnovers, values possessions, stays physical on the glass, and stays energized, finishing.

PREDICTION: Louisville 82, Tennessee 75

Louisville bounces back in a big way in Indy! The Cards pounce on Indiana early and dominate wire to wire!

Louisville got up 16-0 to start the game and never looked back. The Cards led by as many 19. Each time Indiana would attempt to spark a run, Louisville put the fire out each and every time and had an answer. Ryan Conwell, who is an Indianapolis native, shined today for the Cards in his return back home, scoring 21 on 40% shooting. Issac McKneely got hot early and hit two key triples late to fan the flames on the Hoosiers.

TAKEAWAYS:

Defensively, the Cards were STOUT. A much better performance from the team collectively. Louisville was aggressive early and they improved on its ball screen defense. Something that really ate them up on Wednesday. They forced DeVries to take some tough shots and though he made quite a few, and ended with 26, he had to work for EVERY shot. A wide range of Indiana’s made shots today were highly contested threes or insane acrobatic layups. Louisville did not make it easy.

ATROCIOUS officiating. I often wondered to myself throughout the game if IU’s football team was on a double shift today because there were DOZENS of missed foul calls against Indiana. It felt as if Indiana was allowed to be as aggressive as it wanted to be and Louisville didn’t receive the same grace. Nonetheless, the Cards depth came in CLUTCH for situations of this kind. Despite the foul trouble, Louisville stayed aggressive and didn’t allow terrible officiating to dictate its play style.

HAVING AN ANSWER. Louisville led the entire way and kept a double-digit lead throughout, but IU made numerous runs throughout the game to cut into the lead and get a mainly pro-IU crowd involved, but this team had an answer EACH time. That’s how championship teams respond. Not folding when there’s any pressure applied.

Cards now have a week off for Finals before taking on a struggling Memphis squad next Saturday at 3:30 from the Yum! UofL will be retiring the late and great Junior Bridgeman’s jersey. Cards look to complete the sweep against its rivals. (UK, CIN, IU)

Indiana-Louisville KEYS TO THE GAME AND PREDICTION:

Indiana comes into this game with a 7-1 record just like the Cards in Year 1 of the Darian DeVries era. The Hoosiers have two notable wins this season, over Marquette and at home against Kansas State. The Cards have a little familiarity with DeVries. DeVries was at West Virginia last season when Louisville took on the Mountaineers in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas last season, outlasting WVU 79-70 in OT after trailing most of the game. This year, DeVries is in Bloomington as well as his son, star forward, Tucker DeVries. DeVries has been IU’s leading scorer, averaging 16.8 ppg.

Louisville took its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Arkansas 89-80 in Fayetteville. The Cards had its worst night shooting, going 8-37 from Downtown. The frontcourt also struggled on the glass, getting outrebounded 40-25. Cards are gonna have to trim those margins in half at minimum if they look to bounce back.

Today, I’d like to see a better rotation primarily at the 4 and 5 spot. Kasean Pryor and Khani Rooths need to play more. They provide a much needed spark on defense. Perhaps, Hadley can alternate between the 3 and 4. Arkansas’s length in the frontcourt bothered the Cards and it is a major point of emphasis. Rooths and Pryor have the ability to disrupt DeVries, who is a lightning spot-up shooter. Slowing him down is key. Outside of Duke and UNC, Arkansas was likely the most athletic and talented team the Cards will face all season. Today, I’d like to see this team continue to speed up the game. Indiana is a talented team but they are not very deep. This team has shown the ability to truly tire teams out. I could see this being a back and forth game early on but I think that by the game’s conclusion, Louisville’s depth will be the ultimate difference maker.

Louisville SMOKES Kentucky 41-0 and retains the Governor’s Cup for the second straight year ‼️ The Cards, banged up without all 4 scholarship running backs and Chris Bell, outgained UK by almost THREE HUNDRED YARDS (440-147) and gashed the Cats on the ground, rushing for 258 yards.

An unreal showing. Walk-ons, Braxton Jennings AND Shaun Boykins Jr each ran for over 100 yards on the ground. Shoutout to the Louisville OL. They absolutely whooped Kentucky up front. This game was reminiscent to how it felt playing UK under Satterfield. This time, the shoe was on the correct foot. The Cards BULLIED Kentucky and the Cats had no answer. Louisville had to establish some sort of run game to have an opportunity to win and they did BEYOND that.

I know that it’s been a rough ride for Miller Moss this season, but we have to credit his toughness. Playing on a bad foot and coming into this game heavily scrutinized and rightfully so. Outside of one bad throw that could’ve turned into a costly interception and an early sack, his decision making was pristine. He completed 50% of his throws and averaged 9 yards per throw, including 3 touchdowns. It has been a tough season, but without him, this game is completely different.

Louisville’s defensive line wreaked havoc all day on Cutter Boley. Boley has shown to be erratic when put under pressure and Ron English and this staff zeroed in on that. The Cards sacked Boley FIVE times and pressured him well over a dozen times, leading to a SPECTACULAR interception by Tayon Holloway. Excellent gameplan all around from Ron English.

Louisville finishes the regular season 8-4. Despite a rough month, they go out on a high note. The Cards will now await their bowl bid which will be announced a week from tomorrow. The Gator Bowl or Duke’s Mayo Bowl seem like the most likely destinations.

Louisville has outscored Kentucky 82-14 in the last two seasons. Absolute domination. Hope you enjoyed that run , we are coming to collect.

IT’S GAMEDAY!!! A rivalry renewed. The 6th ranked Cards are on away from the Yum! for the first time this season, in Cincinnati to take on the 4-0 Bearcats for the first time since 2022 and just second time since 2014! Cards look to continue its dominance and start 5-0 for the first time since 2019-20 and look to potentially move up into the Top 5 early next week. PK and the Cards have been on a TEAR offensively, averaging 103 points per game, but could be up for a challenge against a Cincinnati team that’s expected to be elite defensively.

The Rivalry is Back! ❤️🖤 Louisville and Cincinnati meet tomorrow for just the 2nd time in the past 12 seasons. A game that used to have a great deal of meaning around this area and region will finally be played again as the start of a two year series with tomorrow’s game being in Cincinnati and next year’s game taking place here in Louisville at Freedom Hall.

The kickoff time for the Governor’s Cup has been announced!! 🏆

Louisville and Kentucky will kick off at Noon ET next Saturday for the third consecutive year. The game will be televised on ACCN.
