VSP's amended CUP application requests up to 50 shooting stations. While they state that not all stations would be active at any given time, the scale is nearly three times larger than what had been proposed in their original application and twice as large as the 23 stations shown on their most recent concept plan.

Their shooting demonstration yesterday only involved eight shooters, which does not accurately reflect the level of noise that would be experienced by adjoining property owners.

What enforceable, quantitative safeguards are there to limit the number of active shooters at any given time? What level of noise is deemed acceptable by VSP -- or more importantly, Goochland County?

VSP will be conducting a shooting demonstration at the proposed site now relocated to Old Fredericksburg Road just north of I-64.

The public is not invited to attend on-site, but if you live or own property nearby, you are encouraged to listen from your own property to understand the noise impact.

Virginia Sports Park (VSP) revises their shotgun range proposal.

VSP's revised concept plan includes relocating the entirety of their proposal -- the shooting stations, lodge, archery building, etc. -- to the eastern end of the Luck Stone property on a newly-leased 125-acre parcel which would be accessed from Old Fredericksburg Road near the industrial park.

Goochland's 2035 Comprehensive Plan (linked in comments) identifies that portion of the Luck Stone parcel as targeting industrial development.

Because the changes are so substantive, I believe this restarts the zoning and planning process with a new pre-application for a conditional use permit (CUP), new community meeting, and new public hearings with the Goochland Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.

VSP stated that they plan to conduct another shooting demonstration, hopefully before any community meeting. We plan to share the date/time of both the shooting demo and the community meeting here and via email.

The Goochland Planning Commission meets tonight.

While there has been some indication that VSP intends to change their application in some way, we have not seen a revised concept or application. As such, their shooting stations are still within firing distance of family homes, properties, and public roadways.

Please continue to voice your concerns to the county, commissioners, and supervisors.

The Board of Supervisors meets tonight at 6pm for public hearings. Please stay active and involved, even while we wait for the deferred public hearing on the VSP range. These public meetings are a great opportunity to introduce yourself to the Supervisors and speak about issues impacting you in Goochland, whether the gun range or other developments!

The Goochland County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM, with Public Hearings at 6:00 PM.

The intersection of Three Chopt with Broad Street at D'Amores Market has been a nightmare for years. Near misses, obstructed views of eastbound Broad Street traffic, and one lane conditions due to illegal parking are regular occurrences.

This would be exacerbated with increased traffic heading to VSP, especially on weekends.

The Commission and Board of Supervisors absolutely should consider the impact of increased traffic on an already-dangerous intersection when discussing the VSP application.

If you regularly traverse this route, please call the Goochland non-emergency number to report illegal parking and dangerous conditions. If you can safely do so, take photos. We need a record of occurrences so that this can be addressed with VDOT and Goochland County before someone is seriously injured or worse.

VSP has requested a deferral of the public hearing for their application.

We sincerely hope that they are taking our concerns into consideration and would welcome the opportunity to meet with them prior to the next public hearing.
