Senior Spotlight Abigail Jacobs 🩷
Abigail Jacobs has been dancing since she was 2. She started her journey in Arroyo Grande and with much excitement followed through with her passion at age 4 at LODG. Through hours of dedication, unforgettable memories, friendships, and resilience, her dance season is slowly coming to an end.

Dance hasn’t just become a hobby but has truly shaped her identity to what it is today. Abigail has shown her hard work through each class and season making her into the strong confident dancer she is today. Through the years, she tested the waters with ballet than followed her talent to discover her love for jazz, contemporary, and especially hip-hop.

Looking back at the past 15 years of dancing she was overwhelmed with the blessings that have came along the way. Her favorite moments is watching her peers grow, getting pionte shoes for her 13th birthday, the adrenaline of performing each show, annually seeing Joe, and taking photos. Overall, Abigail could not have done it without Miss Maggie’s and Mr. Mike’s loving and caring support. Alongside of her gratitude for Miss Maggie and Mr. Mike she is extremely grateful for the support from her Aunt Gina, Mom, and Dad.

Abigail isn’t just dedicated to dance but puts most of her time and energy into schooling. Through elementary school Abigail attended Santa Ynez Christian Academy then transferred to becoming a full time homeschool student in high school; which she says was her best decision. Due to her work ethic and determination Abigail finished a semester early and currently attends Allan Hancock College, where she majors in Registered Nursing. After she has graduated she plans to become an esthetic nurse and work in a med-spa on the Central Coast.

Even though this marks the end of an unforgettable journey, Abigail will always remember where her dedication, passion, and confidence has lead her.

You come into the studio with a smile and a hello every time! Even when you moved you made dance continue! We are so very proud of you and will miss you more than you know 🩷

Senior Spotlight Janie Hurnblad🩷
For roughly 15 years, the Los Olivos Dance Gallery has been an integral part of Janie’s life. She credits her greatest attributes to not only the countless hours spent behind the studio’s doors, but the people this time was spent with. Both those present and those permanently intertwined in her life have guided her through not only life’s toughest seasons, but also the greatest ones. For the people that have poured into her during these times and shaped the person she is today, Janie is beyond grateful. In closing her chapter at LODG, there is no doubt a piece of her will be left in the place she put on her first pink sparkly tutu, made some of her dearest friends, and truly learned what defines her character. The principles so deeply instilled in her during her time at LODG will guide Janie through her next chapter studying English at the University of San Diego this fall. She would not trade a single minute of her time at the Los Olivos Dance Gallery for the world. you are an exquisite dancer and you will be truly missed. Thank you for sharing all your gifts with us. 🩷

Senior Spotlight Mariana Rojas Garcia🩷
Mariana is a Colombian musical theatre performer, actress, singer, and songwriter whose passion lights up every stage she steps on. At just 18 years old, she has already brought to life beloved classics such as The Sound of Music, Annie, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, High School Musical, along with numerous Christmas productions in her home country.

She moved to California in 2024, where she continued pursuing her dreams. She performed in Hadestown with the Adderley Advanced Conservatory as Persephone and took the stage as Catherine Of Aragan in Six, Marcy Park and Olive’s mom in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Velma Kelly in Chicago at Dunn School. Mariana has also had the opportunity to join the Los Olivos Dance Gallery family, feeling very proud of her progress and the amount of friendships and love she has been surrounded with.

Mariana is deeply grateful to Los Olivos Dance Gallery and Mrs. Maggie Mesikep for their support and opportunities; and with Dunn School and its entire community for believing in her dreams and nurturing her growth.

With the unwavering encouragement of her friends and family from afar, Mariana continues to chase her dream—to one day perform on Broadway and shine on the Hollywood screen. She is beyond grateful to have found a place that feels like a “home away from home” that has never once stopped her to dream big.
Next, she will pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre at Rider University with a minor in dance, and she feels ready to defy gravity to one day become Elphaba, in Wicked.

Senior Spotlight Kayla McLaughlin 🩷 Kayla has been dancing since she was just two years old, first training at DDPAC in Los Angeles, where she was also part of a competition team before moving to Santa Ynez, and at the age of nine she joined LODG where she quickly became a dedicated and well-rounded dancer, taking nearly every class available and constantly pushing herself to grow both technically and artistically. Over the years, dance has been a central part of her life, shaping her discipline, confidence, and passion. Throughout high school, Kayla has balanced her commitment to dance with a demanding academic schedule, consistently taking rigorous courses and challenging herself in the classroom, while also being an active member of highschool’s cheer team and track and field team for all four years, demonstrating her strong work ethic, team spirit, and determination. Beyond school activities, she has also dedicated her time to giving back as a volunteer at her local church. This fall, Kayla will attend the University of Oklahoma, where she is committed to studying Political Science on a Pre-Law track, and she hopes to continue her love of dance by joining the OU Pom and Dance Team as she begins this next chapter and continues pursuing both her academic and athletic passions. Kayla you will be missed! Your grace and beauty have always been such a presence here at LODG!🩷

Senior Spotlight Mattei Gerend 🩷
Mattei began dancing at LODG when she was 4 years old. She started out with ballet but has also explored pointe, jazz, broadway, and contemporary. Mattei has always had a deep love and passion for the arts spanning across multiple areas of performing, including dance, theater, and singing. Her theater background includes 5 shows with the SYHS theater group, and this summer will be her 7th and final musical with Arts Outreach. Aside from theater and dance, Mattei has also participated in National Charity League since 7th grade and has enjoyed being able to give back to her community through volunteer work. After taking a break to explore theater during her sophomore and junior years, she could not be happier to be back with her LODG family, especially for her senior year. She is eternally grateful for Miss Maggie and Mr. Mike’s unwavering support throughout her time at LODG, and she will greatly miss her dance family. In the fall, Mattei will be attending UCLA and majoring in Music Industry with the hopes of working in artist or tour management after college. We are so very proud of you! UCLA is lucky to have you Mattei. You will e greatly missed. 🩷

Kayla Shomes has been dancing at LODG since she was 9 years old, though her love for dance began long before that. Over the years she has trained in many styles including ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and even a bit of Broadway. Ballet and hip hop have always been her favorites because she loves the contrast between the two, being disciplined and graceful in ballet while getting to be energetic and free in hip hop. The studio has truly become Kayla’s second home, where she has spent countless hours and created bonds that are uniquely strong through the shared experience of dance. She has also loved helping with younger dancers over the years and especially enjoyed getting to teach tiny ballerinas this past year. In the fall, Kayla will be attending Northeastern University to study Cell and Molecular Biology while making sure to continue to keep dance in her life. We thank you Kayla for your years of dedication and helping with our younger classes. You will be missed tremendously. 🩷
