Think of your salon model like a burger order 🍔

Yes I am food motivated 😂

A six dollar McDonald’s burger hits different than a thirty dollar Fleming’s burger. Neither one is wrong. They are just completely different experiences built for completely different moments.

Suites and booth rental can absolutely be your path to incredible income and total autonomy.

Commission salons can give you mentorship, a built in team culture, lots of support and amenities and a leadership structure that helps you grow faster than you ever could alone.

BUT here is the part nobody talks about online…

A six dollar burger is still a six dollar burger 🤷‍♀️

Know what you are getting before you sit down.

If you are a stylist inside a commission salon, ask yourself honestly…

Is this salon actually investing in me, developing my skills, has additional support and helping me build toward my real life goals? Or are they just collecting a percentage and calling it a team?

If you are running any model whether it is rental, hybrid, or commission, ask yourself…

What am I actually offering my people? Are you giving them enough value to justify their choice to be there every single day?

There are INCREDIBLE versions of every single model out there and there are TERRIBLE ones too.

Stop letting the internet tell you which burger to order. Pay attention to what actually feels aligned for your life, your goals, and your season right now.

Trust your gut over anyone’s highlight reel 🙌

Years ago when our salon was booth rental, new grads would walk through our doors every single week asking if we were hiring.

Turning them away broke my heart because throwing a new stylist with zero clientele straight into booth rental is terrifying. You only learn so much in school, and new talent needs real mentorship, training, and a safe environment to build their confidence.

That was the exact reason I transitioned our salon to an employee based model.

15 years ago I would not have had the structure to hire someone like her straight out of school.

Today, watching her listen to her teacher, walk through our doors, and completely thrive is everything 🙌

We sit down to plan serious strategy and within five minutes we are completely off track debating whether Californians have an accent and cackling 😂

STOP overthinking your content 🙉

So many people hold back from posting because they are terrified of being judged, looking silly, or not seeming perfect enough.

The TRUTH is that people are going to judge you anyway. You might as well post the real, unpolished moments that actually show your personality and culture 😘

Perfection does not build trust with clients or future team members. Showing up as your real self does.

I asked Jasmine some completely bizarre questions off camera to get her raw reactions, and then edited the prompt to normal everyday salon scenarios 😂

Her saying she would scream at the thought of a scalp massage had me rolling.

Full disclaimer that Jasmine is actually the sweetest human and loves her clients, nobody is being treated like this in real life 🫶

I interviewed my stylist in the mobile salon office (aka my car) and asked a simple question…

“If money didn’t exist, would you still do hair?”

Her answer was so sweet. Still doing hair three days a week because she genuinely loves the craft, but opening up a cozy, warm neighborhood coffee shop on the side ☕️

We bleeped out the actual name she came up with because it is way too good and we are protecting her future coffee shop brand at all costs 😂
