Golden Eagles earn 56 D2 ADA Academic Awards announced on Wednesday

CLEVELAND -- Cal State LA earned 56 student-athlete 2025-26 D2 ADA Academic Awards from the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association, the organization announced this week. The Academic Achievement Awards recognize the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the NCAA Division II level.

After 19 seasons with Cal State LA, and 25 seasons in collegiate athletics, Sports Information Director Paul Helms has officially retired.

Those who know Golden Eagle athletics know Paul Helms. Yes, a tireless sports information director, but also the biggest Cal State LA Athletics fan.

Through every championship title, crushing injury, academic accolade, or heartbreaking loss, Paul has remained the same: a caring, dedicated, firey, humorous colleague and friend. One who leads by example and always cheers for our collective success.

Whether it’s statting 7 games in a weekend, holding up backdrops at media day, finishing recaps at 1 AM, jumping on to the court with a spot mop, writing senior day scripts, or traveling to away games just to cheer on our teams in person, Paul has always been there for us.

He’s shown us what being a Golden Eagle truly means. And he’s shown us what we all mean to him.

Paul reminds us as Golden Eagles that having fun is essential, that we should always strive to be better, and that rooting for each other is what truly makes us a team.

And while we will miss all the trademark Paul-isms (swipe for ) we are so proud to celebrate his retirement and wish him all the best in this next chapter of life.

Thank you, Paul! We can’t wait to welcome you back as a full-time fan this season.
