As we enter a new chapter in the history of our shop, I want to tell you a little bit about those who built it.
Maybe you’ve noticed, but when I talk about LA Cyclery or the work we do here, I’m always speaking in plural. This is not my quirky English. It’s very deliberate. Because it takes a village. I’ve had the chance to work with incredible people.
So today I want to give a big shoutout to everyone who’s been part of the history of LA Cyclery, people I have the honor of calling my friends, and without whom this shop wouldn’t exist. I’ve learned so much from each of you, and your friendship and support mean the world to me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Liz Torres who helped us with the original basement where the shop started. To jdan and his incredible work ethic. I still remember when he straight up showed up to ask if he could join the team, and he couldn’t have been a better addition. To Juan Diego Lopez Javier , who after two and a half years went back to Oaxaca and didn’t hesitate when I asked him to come back and help us through this transition, and is here today holding it down like a champ.
And to everyone who has passed through here. ginnypin , who saw me swamped and offered to help while we steadied the ship. Bozzy and his unbeatable calm, so chill no matter what you throw at him. フㄖ, always wanting to learn something new. Dan McMahon and his unmatched organization skills. And C Arteaga kindness, dedication and amazing conversations that I miss every day.
And of course, a massive thank you to all our customers over the years. This has been such a wonderful adventure.
We’ve come a long way surrounded by amazing humans, and the whole crew is excited for this new chapter and eager to keep this small bike shop alive and making people happy.
The renovations are underway and looking good, check out the progress in the pics. We still have a long way to go, so if you’re able, please donate to our fundraiser and help us build the new space. And if you can’t, help us by sharing and spreading the word. And above all, always ride your bikes.
