As we enter a new chapter in the history of our shop, I want to tell you a little bit about those who built it.
Maybe you’ve noticed, but when I talk about LA Cyclery or the work we do here, I’m always speaking in plural. This is not my quirky English. It’s very deliberate. Because it takes a village. I’ve had the chance to work with incredible people.
So today I want to give a big shoutout to everyone who’s been part of the history of LA Cyclery, people I have the honor of calling my friends, and without whom this shop wouldn’t exist. I’ve learned so much from each of you, and your friendship and support mean the world to me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Liz Torres who helped us with the original basement where the shop started. To jdan and his incredible work ethic. I still remember when he straight up showed up to ask if he could join the team, and he couldn’t have been a better addition. To Juan Diego Lopez Javier , who after two and a half years went back to Oaxaca and didn’t hesitate when I asked him to come back and help us through this transition, and is here today holding it down like a champ.
And to everyone who has passed through here. ginnypin , who saw me swamped and offered to help while we steadied the ship. Bozzy and his unbeatable calm, so chill no matter what you throw at him. フㄖ, always wanting to learn something new. Dan McMahon and his unmatched organization skills. And C Arteaga kindness, dedication and amazing conversations that I miss every day.
And of course, a massive thank you to all our customers over the years. This has been such a wonderful adventure.
We’ve come a long way surrounded by amazing humans, and the whole crew is excited for this new chapter and eager to keep this small bike shop alive and making people happy.
The renovations are underway and looking good, check out the progress in the pics. We still have a long way to go, so if you’re able, please donate to our fundraiser and help us build the new space. And if you can’t, help us by sharing and spreading the word. And above all, always ride your bikes.

Still rolling high on vibes from Saturday. Y’all rock!
First of all, a massive thank you to everyone who helped us pull off such a great event and our partners in crime Bikepacking Roots . jdan , Will Bengh , Juan Diego Lopez Javier , Liz Torres , KYLA , Danielle Parnes Julieta + Zuzu and Al , for all the support and work you put into it. This wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you to everyone else who attended and all of our volunteers, our feeder ride crews and our community as a whole. We’ve been so touched by the response from everyone. This is the best community we could ever ask for and we are so lucky to be a part of it.
We made a dent in our fundraiser goal and managed to dine 50-something people and wine a good few more.
The work on the space has already begun (check last slide), and we can’t wait to see it all done.
Our GoFundMe is still ongoing, and we will continue to keep y’all posted on our progress. Help us get there by donating and sharing.

LA Cyclery is moving! After countless false alarms, scares and even an investment into the good ol’ basement, we are moving for real this time, but fret not, we are not going far at all, less than 500 feet away, just around the corner from our current spot. This is a big change for us and we are super thrilled and excited about the new space, with a lot more potential for community events, skill shares, group rides, cook offs (that’s right we have a kitchen woot woot!), and even the occasional pickup game cause we also have a hoop.

All this to say we’re pretty stoked about getting the chance to continue serving the Silver Lake community and of course continuing our mission of creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone, especially our trans, enby, lgbtqia and gender expansive siblings, for at least another 5 years!

The new space is bigger, which is great, and completely empty, which is less great. Right now it’s a warehouse in need of lofts, stairs, workbench, and a lot of hours before it can be called a bike shop. We’ve thrown every resource we have at this and we’re still short. So that’s the ask.

Our customers, friends, comrades and riding buddies have always come through and we’re sure this time will be no different, community is a powerful thing and we are surrounded by the best one so if this shop has ever been your spot, help us build the next one.

You know the drill, every dollar counts, if you can’t donate no shade help us spread the word and even if you only stop for air every once in a while we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone, cause this has been an amazing ride and we couldn’t be here without you. Can’t wait to see what the next stretch of road has in store for us.

We are still here! for the love of bikes another 5 years.

TODAY IS EARTH OVERSHOOT DAY
As of today, humanity has used up everything Earth’s ecosystems can regenerate in a year. Everything from here to December 31 is drawn from natural capital, that’s the deficit.
The numbers from Global Footprint Network: Humanity is using nature 73% faster than ecosystems regenerate. That is the equivalent of living off 1.73 Earths. It is the highest level of overshoot ever recorded. The gap between our footprint and the planet’s biocapacity actually widened over the past year.
Wiping the accumulated ecological debt clean would require roughly 20.6 years of complete planetary rest. Much of the damage is likely irreversible. The accompanying report this year, “Prepared for the Predictable?”, makes the sharper point: almost no national government treats resource security as a central part of economic planning, even as overshoot drives stagflation, food and energy insecurity, health crises and conflict.
Even if we cut CO₂ emissions from fossil fuels by 50%, this would only move the date three months later.
The specific US overshoot day for 2026 happened in March 14th meaning if the whole world used resources the same way the US does we would need 5.1 Earths to keep up with resource replenishment rates.
All this to say: it’s all hands on deck. And the closest fight is right under our tires. Angelenos passed Measure HLA in 2024 by 65%, and two years later the city is still finding ways not to build it. Bike lanes, crosswalks, bus lanes, all sitting in a plan nobody wants to be forced to follow. Sixty-plus appeals filed by regular people, almost all denied. So: pay attention when your street gets repaved. File the appeal. Show up to Public Works. Vote for people who talk about this stuff like it’s infrastructure and not a hobby. Also eat less meat, buy local when you can, waste less food, and ride your bikes. Not because one ride offsets anything, it doesn’t, but because a city where riding is normal is a city that burns a lot less. The numbers are bleak. We’re still here. Next year’s date is ours to move.

Geez, time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it?

I mean, the world is still a dumpster fire, but who says we can’t still make space to celebrate community and support each other? And what a great chance we have with these dope ass shirts from our friend Stephen down at PNX Bags PNX Bags™ - Stephen. You should definitely check them out and give them a follow.

Designed by Stephen, printed by NightOwl Custom Apparel, a woman owned shop in Portland. Small business through and through.

They’re all sold out on the PNX site, so this is your chance to stop by LA Cyclery and sn**ch one locally. We also got one matching small front bag by PNX, so if you hurry you can get the ultimate swag combo. (I already know this style is right up the alley of late4work. Who knows, he might buy them all :P)

We also have big news to share with y’all, but that’s coming in another post either later today or tomorrow. Like we say in my language, . So in the meantime, mesmerize yourselves with these great designs and keep shredding (preferably this fuuudged up system!)

And for the love of bikes, always keep the rubber side down and have fun.

This has been a very hard year for a lot of us.

Our communities have been under attack, and many of us have been carrying more than we ever expected to. But through all of it, we’ve also found each other. We’ve built real community, shown up when it mattered, and reminded ourselves that we keep us safe.

We are deeply grateful for all the support you’ve given us this year. It has meant more than we can put into words, and we carry it with us as we move forward. With this shared strength and care for one another, we feel better prepared for whatever the future brings.

That said, it has been a rough year, and it’s time to pause and replenish our energy. The shop will be closed until January 6, 2026 so we can rest, reset, and come back grounded and ready.

We’ll be back with renewed energy to keep making your rides safer build community and nurture the space we’ve all come to know and love.

Thank you for being here, for trusting us, and for riding alongside us.

All the best.
Rubber side down and tailwinds always 💜
