Happy Friday friends! 💛

This week we are so excited to feature Danilo Danilo Manoel who is such a joy to watch in the air! We also love how he executes crafty transitions with precision. 💛

In Danilo’s words:

“My name is Danilo Manoel, and I have been practicing aerial arts for over 15 years. With a background in theater, I found in aerial silks a form of expression that expanded my artistic possibilities and transformed my life, eventually becoming my profession as well.

Today, I work as both a performer and an instructor, sharing this passion with children, teenagers, and adults. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching my students grow and seeing their joy with every new achievement.

My message to the aerial community is simple: respect your own pace, celebrate every accomplishment, and trust the process. Results will come, but it is the journey that truly transforms us.” 💛

Micro-bends in aerial training? Let’s talk about it! Whether you’re newer to aerial, coming back from a break, or you’ve been practicing for years, micro-bends may show up in your training.

And while they can affect the look of your lines, this is about more than aesthetics.

Micro-bends can give us helpful information about how the body is organizing strength, flexibility and control.

One of my favorite air-bound exercises to work on this is straddle leg extensions with hammock support.

Begin with a hammock knot behind your upper back. Lift your legs into a turned-out straddle.

Intentionally micro-bend your knees about 5–10%, not a full frog.

Then fully extend your legs by engaging your quads, pointing through your feet and keeping active energy through your legs.

Think: 💭 Inhale to bend. Exhale to extend. Pause for 1–2 seconds.

Aim for 10 extensions, rest, then repeat.

A few things to watch for:

•If your lower back starts arching, your legs may be lifting higher than your core and hip flexors can currently support. Lower the legs and focus on keeping your pelvis slightly tucked.

•If you’re leaning your shoulders back, the exercise will feel easier, but it becomes less effective. Keep your ribcage stacked over your pelvis and your head neutral.

•If you’re rushing, slow it down. Your legs may shake a little and that’s normal! The pause is where you build strength, awareness and active control.

The goal isn’t to make the exercise look big. The goal is to build active leg engagement, core-to-hip-flexor connection and cleaner lines with control.

Happy Friday friends! 💛

This week we are honored to feature the incredible Elena whose birthday happens to be today! In addition to being a jaw-dropping aerialist, Elena is a multidisciplinary circus artist who has been in the business for over two decades.

In Elena’s words:

“Over the last 25 years, the circus has consumed my every motivation and creative output. I started as an aerialist but I’ve also trained and performed in physical theater, Cossack horse trick riding, quick change and illusion magic… while playing intermittently at ground acrobatics, stilt walking, unicycle, juggling and manipulation.

Circus has given me the opportunity to travel the world, performing and working with some of the most incredible humans. It’s these relationships that inspired me to innovate and create work like the aerial quick change on Spanish web and all the stories and characters I developed in my work.

All that being said, throughout my career, I have coached and choreographed aerial acrobatics, and it is a true joy to help my students find their individual artistry and help them build their own careers as artists.” 💛

🧚‍♀️ My favorite descent! I call this one the Chair Glissade. It may look effortless, but there’s quite a bit of technique and control behind it. ✨ Full tutorial available on Aerial Physique TV!

Technique Tip: Can-Can Climb 🦵✨ A fun intermediate-level climb that builds off the Russian Climb!

To set yourself up for success, I suggest warming up your hamstrings and practicing active strength with your leg lifted to the front.

Step-by-Step Breakdown:

🔹 Start in a Russian Climb
I recommend beginning from one climb up, as starting from the mat can be tricky.
From long arms, lift one leg up high toward your chest, with the silk to the outside of your foot.

🔹 Scoop the Tail
Use your opposite leg to scoop the tail, aiming to place it on your knee or higher.
Draw a rainbow path from out to in, guiding the silk to land near the outside of your hip, then cross your legs.

🔹 Sit & Stand
Sit onto your heel, then press through the standing leg to rise up.
Reach hands high to reset and lengthen both legs down.

🔹 Repeat
Scoop ➡️ Sit ➡️ Stand.
Once you’re comfortable, work toward blending it into one smooth motion.

💡 Pro Tips:
– That circular leg pathway helps the tail land higher
– Focus on control before speed

🚫 Common Mistakes:

❌ Tail wraps too low (around the ankle)
✅ Fix: Aim to scoop the tail around the knee or higher for better placement and an easier stand-up.

❌ Kicking straight forward instead of circling
✅ Fix: Use an out-to-in leg circle for a more secure and effective wrap.

❌ Skipping the warm-up
✅ Fix: Do 10 leg kicks & 10 leg circles per side.
Then try this active flexibility drill: Sit tall, extend one leg in front, and grab your ankle. Let go and hold your leg in place for a count of 10, keeping a long spine.

Try it out and let me know how it goes below! 👇
