Hey Ballers we made it!!
What an amazing 14th season of LA Beach Bocce Ball. Big THANKS to 91 awesome teams and a HUGE shout out to all of the 60+ teams that came out to our Finals Tourney Sept 8th. The Finals are always an amazing day of Bocce but this year was probably one of the best tournaments we have had in a number of years. The turnout was amazing and the intensity and competition was at an all time high with a handful of rookie teams, super solid 2nd year teams and the usual bad ass veteran teams battling for the Bernaachi Cup.
This year's bracket had Palina Necklace, Wind Beneath My Bocce Balls, Boccelism and Bob's Bocce Ball Rodeo getting the top 4 seeds for the day. It wasn’t all fun and games as teams came to play and some of the top 10 teams dropped out earlier than expected. There were matches in the round of 32 and 16 that felt like final four caliber play. Just ask Boutros Boutros Boutros Boutros Bocce & Iron Unicorn.
The Final Four came down to Salty Sand Sailors, Church of Bocce, Anger Twins, & Orangutang Ga****ng in order of seeding. That turned into the Salty Sand Sailors vrs. Church of Bocce going for the championship. Church of Bocce found themselves in the finals for the 2nd year in a row with Tim and Heath looking for Gold this time out. Not to be outmatched, the already 1 time champs Salty Sand Sailors threw daggers to climb to the top and be crowned our 2018 CHAMPS for the 2nd time!
In Beach Bocce Ball you feel like a winner every Tuesday being with amazing friends while you throw on the beach for 12 summer sunsets… but nothing feels better than holding that Finals Cup at the end of a grueling tournament knowing you’re the CHAMP. This year’s finals was a bit chilly with overcast all day but the crowd that gathered to watch the finals was kept pretty toasty from the fire each team threw.
It’s not just about throwing bocce so I want to thank everyone for BRINGING IT to the beach this year with some pretty fierce team costumes, very creative team names and that killer bocce team spirit that was also at a higher level than I've seen in 8 years. See below for all of your 2018 winners. It is a pleasure to put a league together when it consists of some of the best friends I will ever know. LOVE YOU GUYS!!
I also want to recognize the dedicated Team Bocce members that helped behind the scenes this year. Thanks to King and Country for sponsoring the League with Rick Gledhill of King and Country designing the t-shirts for the 6th year in a row. Here’s to Mike Campbell and Kevin Schadt along with Tim Brown of Farmer Brown driving the White Van. No one got towed this year. Also.. a special thank you to DJ Fox and Mike Hackett for helping with matchups on weeks I couldn’t make it. If you're like me you already miss Tuesday nights. We will see you all on the sand in 2019!
