Before National Tennis Month wraps up, we want you to meet someone special. πΎπ
Meet Laura Goodkind () β wheelchair tennis athlete, coach, and a true force in the Angel City Sports community.
At 6 years old Laura's parents signed her up for a local tennis clinic. She hated it. The court felt too big, everything too far, too hard to get to. Growing up with CP, the game just didn't feel like it was made for her β so she walked away.
Then at 11 she gave it another shot.
βHaving grown, the court didn't seem so intimidating, and I was hooked."
She played standing tennis through high school and junior college, but returned to the sport in 2018 β this time as a wheelchair tennis player. And she never looked back.
In 2024 Laura won her first ITF tournament.
"Meeting people from all over, having the chance to compete internationally, the endurance and mental toughness β it's a love (and learning to love) relationship. I enjoy figuring out opponents' weaknesses and using my strengths to capitalize on points."
"Tennis allows me to have an active outlet, meet people, and travel. Itβs also a sport that develops and enhances coordination, choices (shot selection) reflexes, endurance, and mental strength."
Laura coaches at Angel City Sports wheelchair tennis clinics, passing the sport forward to athletes who are right where she once was.
Thank you Laura, for sharing your story and being such an incredible part of our community π
