For years I collected and accumulated things I thought I might need or want someday... Well... it got out of hand.

Then when I needed to downsize after my divorce, I had to declutter a whole lot of stuff.

I really thought I'd miss the shoes, the snow globes, and all the things I'd spent good money on, gifts I received, or stuff I saved for someday.

What surprised me was how little I really liked, used, or needed.

Instead, I noticed the incredible relief, the calm and peace I felt walking into my home.

If you're ready to feel that same calm and peace, comment JOY and I'll send you the details about Decluttering With Joy, my simple 30-day plan for clearing 30 years of clutter.

It's a small investment that could save you months of frustration and help you finally make real progress.

Most people don’t believe me when I say I used to be a shop-aholic and a bit of a micro hoarder.

After I fully decluttered my home in midlife, I’m no longer willing to manage things I don’t use, love, or truly need.

Here are 10 things I stopped buying after decluttering my home:

1. Extra storage bins just because they're on sale.
Storage should be specific to a space. If I need one, I’ll buy the exact one when the time comes.

2. Single-purpose kitchen gadgets.
Avocado slicers, a second heart-shaped waffle maker for Valentine’s Day… my regular tools work just fine.

3. Seasonal dish towels and hand soaps for every holiday.
Now I keep things simple and just add a small touch of the season instead.

4. “Wishful thinking” hobby supplies.
If I see beautiful yarn and think maybe I’ll knit a scarf someday… I don’t buy it. I haven’t knitted in years.

5. Clearance items in the Target checkout line.
Those cheap little thrills I don’t actually need.

6. Freebies I have no use for.
I don’t need another branded water bottle or keychain sitting in a cupboard.

7. Random gift items “just to have on hand.”
I keep a small stash for true emergencies, but most gifts are now intentionally chosen.

8. Books I might read someday.
If I already have a stack waiting, I make a note of the title and get it when I’m actually ready.

9. Fantasy clothes for a future version of me.
“Once I lose five pounds…”
No ma’am. I buy clothes for the body I have today, little waist rolls and all.

10. Bulky Costco buys that don’t fit my space.
Like a giant tub of coconut butter when I barely use it.

It’s not about restriction. It’s about walking into your home and feeling calm. Especially when you've accumulated over decades like me.

If you’re ready for that too, comment CALM and I’ll send you my decluttering jumpstart.
