Crazy! Amazing
Hubble just spotted something wild at Saturn’s south pole: a colossal 10-sided storm pattern.
The strange decagon is taking shape inside Saturn’s turbulent atmosphere, forming a vast geometric structure around the planet’s southern pole. Hubble observations suggest hints of the pattern were already appearing in 2023, and it has since grown more distinct.
It’s an extraordinary counterpart to Saturn’s legendary north-pole hexagon, a six-sided jet-stream pattern that has endured for decades. Now Saturn may have another atmospheric oddity: a giant decagon swirling at the opposite end of the planet.
