On June 30th 2014, the To***co Education and Materials Lab (TEAM Lab) will be closing its doors. Since 2009, we have had the pleasure and honor of working with many to***co control agencies to make educational materials available to agencies across the State of California and the Nation.

Last year, TEAM Lab visited the USC Institute of Creative Technologies and learned about innovative technologies that are used to teach individuals skills in new and engaging ways. We are so proud of CVS for ending the sales of to***co in their stores by October 2014! This is a huge step in decreasing to***co availability and making our society healthy. We hope that other pharmacies and retailers will follow soon.

The drugstore chain sees itself as a health care provider and says the sale of ci******es doesn’t fit that image, even though the company stands to lose $2 billion in sales.

Today, the U.S. Surgeon General released a report on smoking and its impact on health marking the 50th anniversary of the Surgeon General's report that linked to***co to cancer and heart disease. This new report had key findings such as:

- Since the first Surgeon General’s report on smoking and health was published 50 years ago, more than 20 million Americans have died because of smoking.
- If current rates continue, 5.6 million Americans younger than 18 years of age who are alive today are projected to die prematurely from smoking-related disease.

This is the 32nd to***co-related Surgeon General’s report issued since 1964. It highlights 50 years of progress in to***co control and prevention, presents new data on the health consequences of smoking, and discusses opportunities that can potentially end the smoking epidemic in the United States.
