If you haven't seen the Syncopated Ladies Live! Tour yet, then you'll have to catch it on its next leg in February. I caught the "popdocu-concert" when it was in Malibu a couple weeks ago and wrote about it for LA Dance Chronicle. It's a twenty-first century masterpiece. I've had to keep this on the down low for the last year, but I am excited to release a small cover art of my forthcoming book, Behind the Screen: Tap Dance, Race, and Invisibility During Hollywood's Golden Age. The ridiculously talented and beautiful human listened to my crazy vision and then turned it into a reality. I asked if she might be able to fashion some gloved hands in the style of those dancing gloves from the 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon, Through the Mirror. Voilà! Kira created these amazing dancing gloves from of my hands . I specifically wanted them to look like something you might see on a model sheet rather than super polished because one of the major promises of this book is that you will start to see things as they really are, not the varnished version that Hollywood hopes you'll see. I think she nailed it! Thank you, Kira!
