Biography
Misako Tsuchiya was born in Japan and lived in the
United States since 1981. Misako was certified as an Alexander Technique Teacher in 1990, and has been practicing Tai Chi and the Japanese healing art, NoguchiSeitai, since 1975. She has always been interested in the body and mind relationship, and has taught many performance artists in universities such as USC, UCLA, CalArts, CSULB and acting schools like The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA). She has also taught movement and Alexander Technique in the Idyllwild Arts Academy for high school students. After she met her husband, Mo Nishida, who does a lot of community work in the Japanese American communities, she then started to work with homeless people, AIDS patients, at-risk kids and people in prison. One of her unique classes is in an adult school on Skid Row where she combines Alexander and meditation for people who are going for an interview: “ go to the interview without fear." Misako has just finished the 23rd annual Spiritual Run from Lil Tokyo to Manzanar in California as a member of the 50/500 committee which organizes the Spiritual Run. She is also a sundancer practicing Native American Ceremony. Misako also has a community class of Tai Chi and Qi Gong in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute and the Long Beach Japanese Community Center. She continues to practice Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Northern Shaolin Kung Fu.
