“Suck it up”
Mental health & well-being is starting to be considered more and more as an important part of being an elite athlete.
Although the “suck it up” ideology is still around, things are starting to take a turn in regards to mental health awareness among athletes. With this movement towards mental health, people are confusing it for mental toughness, although they are related.
Mental toughness determines how we manage our thoughts, emotions, energy, and productivity. Instead of just “sucking it up”, people need to learn how to improve their mental health. That step would start by getting help and learning how to manage our coping mechanisms to build on their mental toughness.
Do your part by learning more about mental health & spreading the word! 🧠💚

In life many things happen, some are good & some are bad. Situations arise that you may not have anticipated & cannot be changed because they are out of your control. Whatever happens, remember to keep working hard and fight for what you believe. Turn those negatives into positives by learning and growing from those experiences. Remember… Don’t give up! 💪🏾

Depression and sadness are not weaknesses. Vulnerability is not a weakness. There should be no shame in asking for help or expressing your true feelings, especially at a time like this, so don’t be afraid to ask for it. Sometimes you need a little bit of help and that’s okay. BE proud of yourself for being honest about your emotions.
On this mental health day, I send all those suffering my love, empathy, and understanding.
