It is with great sadness that we share with our great community that Steve Fox has passed away.
Steve was a giant in the Los Altos-Los Altos Hills baseball community. While his son Jack is only 14, Steve has been a coach to sons and daughters of Los Altos families for 20 teams. Steve was a coach from Tee Ball to Juniors over nine seasons and Fall Ball for three. He coached five All Star teams, as well as a "travel ball" team of exclusively LALL players for three seasons.
Steve literally gave his heart and soul to LALL. Three years ago, while coaching in the Majors playoffs, he had a cardiac arrest on the field, collapsing in front of his son who was standing on third base. He returned for two more years of Juniors and All Star teams.
The LALL board decided that the batting cages at Purissima Park where Steve and Jack spent so much time, will bare Steve's name in his honor. Steve leaves behind his beloved partner Jen, his daughter Zoe, and son Jack. If your child was a part of one of those 20 teams and you were inspired by his relentless positivity, calmed by his even keel demeanor, or impressed by his commitment to baseball and the local area, please let Steve's family know how much he meant to you and the community. We have set up a GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-steve-foxs-family-in-tough-times) in his honor. Please share your favorite memories of Steve, and if you're comfortable, consider a donation to Steve's family.
Steve himself would never mention it, but the reality of the situation, compels us to share. Steve had been out of work for the last year. Because of his pre-existing heart condition, they didn't have insurance. Jen has been out of the workforce for years, but that will have to change quickly. We all can imagine how daunting a situation that must be. Add in the stress of having to figure out how to pay for significant medical bills, funeral costs, college tuition, and rent - all while grieving, Steve's family can use all the help they can get. And, if cooking or picking up food is your thing, please consider participating in the meal train (https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/y8dl51) for Steve's family.
Let's support the Wheatonfox family by dropping off a meal. For any questions, please reach out to Christine McQuade Hsu (650.209.9405).
