Sorry for the Tardiness of the announcement. A week or so ago I finally had some time to go by and donate the results from the Virginia side of the Ice Bowl Battle VI. It has always been a highlight of my year. The 66 lbs. of food donations were well received. But when I pulled out the $1100 in cash... I love watching the looks on faces change. I also can't pass up the opportunity to be a DG ambassador. I will miss running this event and the great things it does. Many thanks to the DG community and all that have been involved in making it happen.

12/31/2014

There have been discussions about a possible format change for the Giles leg of the Ice Bowl Battle and here is the results.

Due to the large influx of Novice and Rec players, thanks to the folks at NOVA DGA, we will be playing the SHORT2LONG format rather than the previously announced LONG2LONG format for the Giles Run leg of the Ice Bowl Battle VI.

Hope to see you there.

Here's El Tye Dye's Recap of Day 1 at Seneca:
$860 total raised so far for the food bank.

Big Thanks to Bobby Herman for getting up early driving to my house to pick up the grill and drive it up to Seneca even though he wasn't playing. Thanks to T2 and S2 for helping with the scoring so I did not have to put my glasses on. Thanks to Bud for bringing his grill and shelter.

We had 24 souls brave the elements to play.
Hopefully with the lack of "gentle rain" forcast for tomorrow, we should get even bigger crowds down at Giles Run. It's a great course and this is the perfect time of year to play it.

23 players showed to play at Seneca today. Much lower then the usual 70+. 7 VA players made the trip and we managed to not only make the Bronze Division but also took the Silver Division as well. Stiles will be posting results sometime soon.

So let's go VA! Here is our opportunity to get back in the series and give them Northerners a little what for to boot. Tomorrow will be the opposite of today weather wise, so get out and LET"S TAKE THIS THING!

Registration opens at 9 AM
Meeting at 9:45
Tee at 10.

With all the recent rain, please be prepared to take the alternate route to the Back 9 off of Silver #1. I'm sure we will not be able to safely cross at the usual spot. Will check and update in the morning.
Also, the ENTIRE Lost & Found Stash (Some 75+ discs) will be on site tomorrow.

2013 Giles Run Ice Bowl
The Combatants from the Commonwealth were small in force but fierce in fight. We have to tip our caps to our brethren from the north as they brought some unusual numbers this year doubling the previous record. Their volume and the lack thereof from the Commonwealth, will give Maryland a big jump in the series 3 – 1.
There was some outstanding golf played and even a 3 way play off for the points in the Gold division. The young Austin Pfaff would fend off 2 Marylanders to take the division and bring in double points for being a Junior. Way to represent Superstar!
Here’s how it played:
(Many thanks to Hawk for taking care of the post round cards & scoreboard)

Maryland wins the weekend and leads the series 3 - 1

Here’s how the charity played:

$350 – 2 days of player registration for VA State Pot
$65 – Side Bet Pay Out Donations
$65 – Mark Stiles Matches Side bet pay out donations
$25 – via day of disc sales and other donations
$505 – Total Cash Donation to Capital Area Food Bank

25 lbs of Nonperishable food was also donated. (10lbs Seneca / 15lbs Giles)

By winning the weekend, Maryland will be donating $1675.00 to their food bank bring our total donation for the weekend to $2180.00 & 25 lbs of food to our area food banks. It’s under last year’s totals but not a bad job for a couple of great days of disc golf giving back to the community.

Many, many thanks to Mark Stiles and the Cedar Farm Disc Golf Club for their help and sponsorship of this great event. I recently found out that our event falls on the opening weekend for Ice Bowls Worldwide. What a great way to start off the year by giving back through disc golf. So don’t be a wimp, quit your whining and just mark your calendar for the 1st weekend of 2014 when we shall meet again for Ice Bowl Battle V – Revenge of the Commonwealth.

TD'ing can be a pain in the ass, but if people like Craig, Ian, and Erik keep plying me with truly spectacular beer, I'll keep doing it. Thank you. I'm drinking Craig's homebrew as I type so you know what to attribute any errors to.

Thanks to Rick Honn for transporting my grill. Thanks to Bobby Hermann and my son Dan for working the grills and keeping everyone fed. [I apologize to those who did not get to eat as early as they would have liked - I was too busy with registration to get Dan coached on grilling, it's one of my failings as a father, he's not experienced enough to get it done without more coaching.] Thanks to Hawk for setting up the board. Thank you to John Merhi and Dan Becker who had all the scores checked by the time my card came in (last). Thank you all for coming out and your generosity to the food banks.

I apologize for any misspellings below, but some of your handwriting really sucks (let me know what it should be, and I'll fix it.
