Thanks to all those who took part in, contributed to, and helped run the annual Rod Loveless Decatur Wide Open golf tournament, auction, and potluck party! The July 6 events were attended by a very large and possibly record crowd. 148 people played golf, and we estimate that more than 200 came to the party. The three events raised enough to pay for an urgently needed (and much more capable) new mower.
Very many thanks to the Loveless family for their continued generosity in permitting the community to use the course, and for hosting the evening event. Thanks also to the hard-working organizers, notably Tom Weeks (the tournament), Randy Stricker and Kathy Janes (the auction) and Deb Oyer (the potluck), along with a large crew of helpers. And of course, thanks to those islanders who generously donated – and in some cases created – items for the auction. And last but certainly not least, thanks to the businesses that support our community in many ways, including with generous auction items: Island Transport, Island Express, Paraclete Charters, and Decatur Construction.
Volunteers are always needed for the many tasks that go into caring for this great community asset. We’re always ready to welcome people who’d like to help in some way, whether with mowing, organizing the club house, looking after the greens, trimming and w**d whacking, maintaining the equipment, or other projects. If you’d like to be part of this team, or have questions, do contact any member of the Decatur Nine Committee (Tom Weeks, Randy Stricker, Sarah Jones, Tom O’Boyle, Kathy Janes, Richard Bevan).
And for those who play a lot, why not buy an annual individual pass ($150) or family pass ($250)?
