Florida Citrus Sailfest

Florida Citrus Sailfest Founded by John Gardner & active 1972-1996 this was the world's largest inland regatta. Help us resurrect USA's Premier Sailing event.

John Gardner founded this event in 1972, the then small regatta grew over the next 23 years into the world's largest inland sailing regatta. Held on Lake Monroe (a part of the St John's River system) in Sanford, Florida, this became America's Premier Sailing Event. The last regatta was held in 1996 just one year after John's death. For those of us around then, we remember how great this event was

– for sailors, power boaters and the Central Florida community. For those of you who didn’t get to experience the SailFest, and for those who want to resurrect this event, this page will give you a flavor of this event and the impact it had on the lives of all of us that were involved. Help us resurrect the Florida SailFest to once again become America's Premier Sailing Event!
