Meet Goose!

🪿 The newest member of the family - he is part aussie, part border collie and 1000% snuggle bug.

🧡 He’s taken up the role of full time shadow.

🎾 Ball is life, and there’s no convincing him otherwise.

🐈 Alvin just looooves his new brother (best read with extreme sarcasm 😆). At this point they are both convinced the other is out to eat them.

🐈‍⬛ Dora is pretty neutral and could care less.

🥰 After sweet Betty passed earlier this month, it seemed like fate that I add a Goose to my life

🏔️ I can’t wait for summer hikes and adventures with this sweet dude.

So how do you change that outcome?

Add in strength training as little as 3x/week for 30-45 minutes can have positive results.

If you’re not ready to give up the activities you love just because of your age… then I highly suggest you start strength training!

The topic of body image feels like it’s in a weird place right now. It seems like you have so much talk about each end of the spectrum and no not much talk about the middle ground.

One end of the spectrum is saying that you should love and accept your body no matter what, and you shouldn’t want to change your body. And the other end of the spectrum is saying you need to have a snatched waste and a thicc dump truck to be considered healthy.

In my opinion, both sides are a little right and a little wrong, but we also need to talk about the middle ground.

First off, there is no definition for a “healthy body.” Nor should there be. A healthy body is going to look different for every individual person. What’s healthy for me isn’t necessarily healthy for Donna Dumbbell. The number on the scale does not define a healthy body. Improved blood pressure, lowered resting heart rate, a healthy relationship with food and exercise, improved cardiovascular health, ability to do activities you enjoy, overall sleep quality/quantity, regular hormone cycle… these are all factors you should look at when talking about a healthy body.

Next up, you can love and accept your body AND STILL want to make changes. Accepting your body does NOT mean you aren’t allowed to make changes. If you are overweight, you can love your body and still realize you need to make changes to feel better, to improve your overall health, and to feel better doing activities you enjoy.

Lastly, not everyone needs a snatched waist and a thicc dump truck. I’m not saying those aren’t great perks of strength training. But let’s focus a little less on training for a specific body part and focus a little more on training for performance, overall health, and to support the activities we enjoy doing.

Life Hack 101:

Ask yourself “is there anything current me can do to make future me’s life a little easier?”

It’s a freakin’ game changer!

Even the small things like setting my gym clothes out or getting my gym water bottle ready the night before makes it 1% easier to be consistent with the habit.

What can current you do to help future you stick with your habits?

🦊 set your water bottle on your nightstand or in the bathroom so you start your day off with water
🦊 lay your workout clothes or pack your gym bag the night before
🦊 throw your shoes in the car the night before so you can walk on your lunch break
🦊 prep a couple breakfast ingredients while you’re waiting for your dinner to cook
🦊 invest in a workout program so you’re not wasting time at the gym trying to figure out what to do
🦊 set a notebook next to your coffee maker so you can do your daily journaling while your coffee is brewing

🙅‍♀️ Longing for a second chance to prioritize your health and fitness to support more adventures?

OR do you want…

🙋‍♀️ Joy knowing you lived your life to the fullest?
🙋‍♀️ Happiness in all the memories you created from all the adventures you went on and opportunities you took?

Do you consider yourself an athlete?

Do you hike, bike, run, walk, chase your kids, kayak, go to zumba class, dance, kick box, paddle board, ski, snowboard, surf, roller blade, play baseball, volleyball, basketball, soccer…

If you said YES to any of those or just enjoy being physically active, by definition YOU ARE AN ATHLETE.

And guess what… athletes strength train.

They strength train to become proficient (aka more athletic).

I know you’re thinking, but I’m in my 30’s and I just do these activities for fun. I don’t really care about getting better at them… so why strength train?

Athletes also strength train to avoid injury and to increase their overall health.

And so should you!

Athleticism doesn’t stop just because you’re not a high school, college or pro athlete!

Even you, the casual weekend hiker, you are an athlete. And you, the mom chasing her kids around the yard, you are an athlete!!

Add strength training to your life so you can continue being an athlete for years to come.
