Sunday at Barefoot Hootenanny starts with Gravy Crockett on the River Stage! They’re bringing plenty of personality, a whole lot of soul, and a sound you won’t hear anywhere else.
Gravy Crockett met at a roadside revival in Zebulon just down the highway from the crossroads. Somewhere between the first hallelujah and the last amen, the troubadours knew their meeting was divine providence. Unsure whether baptism, exorcism or anathema was called for, the revival preacher called it something else.
Part goth-spel, part bluesgrass, part folk-a-billy, their hymns are front porch music if the porch burned down from a prayer candle toppled over into spilled moonshine. Rough around the edges; but cleans up nicely like awarshing of the feet after a long pilgrimage. Their canticles tell tales of our own personal odysseys fraught with love & heartbreak, rug cuttin’ & meditation, redemption & salvation, along with hell-raisin' as it's done in heaven by saints, sinners and atheists alike.
Gravy Crockett’s music is rooted in old sounds, but there’s nothing particularly traditional about what happens when they get ahold of them old strings rusted from blood and holy fire water.
Make your way to the River Stage and start your Sunday with Gravy Crockett. You never quite know where their music is going to take you.
