tonight... The holidays have changed dramatically for me since 2004. What’s in my cooler has changed as much as what’s in my heart. This evening there will be no beer, no wine and no stashes of 90 proof all over the house for me to hit between conversations. I will not pass out drunk in the front yard, nor will I say things that will embarrass my family or myself. Instead I will be present and clear minded. I will try to take in every smile and laugh. I will listen to what is said and I will remember who was here. And when I hit the pillow tonight for my 15th sober holiday, I might just cry anyway. Not because I want my life to end but because it’s so fu***ng damn good.

Being the race director for The American Heroes Run is one of the best gifts that life has given me. We had almost 200 runners come and put all they have into the path around Rogers Grove Park this weekend. He had several 100 mile finishers, first time 5kers and champions from all over the world. They showed up to remind us all what living is about- running the mile you’re in, breathing through the pain and making sure every step is leading you somewhere. I love you all, thank you for sharing a couple days with me.
