This Wednesday LCC had the pleasure of hosting the Executive Director of the Ouimet Fund, Colin McGuire and Jeff Murphy, PGA, Ouimet Sr. Dir. of Operations.
LCC has a proud history of support for The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, which is a need-based four-year renewable award that helps many students significantly lighten the burden of college tuition. Ouimet Scholarships are available to college level students who have worked a minimum of two years at a MA golf course. LCC is proud to have a long history of employees and caddies who have been recipients of the Ouimet scholarship.
Pictured here are Colin McGuire (red shorts) and Jeff Murphy, PGA with two of LCC’s Ouimet/Evans Scholars, Ning Naiyanan & Sean McMinn.
The second picture includes members of LCC's Ouimet Committee, members, golf pros, and caddies. Please support our longtime bartender, Cindy, as she raises charity funds to run in the 2025 Boston Marathon! See details below:

Imagine being a child facing a life-threatening illness—when your world is filled with hospital visits and uncertainty, a wish can be the hope that changes everything. This year, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be running in the 2025 Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America! I’m not just running 26.2 miles—I’m running to help Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island grant life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses.
Let me introduce you to Alex, an energetic 6-year-old whose wish changed everything for him. Diagnosed with leukemia at just four years old, Alex endured over two years of grueling treatments. Throughout this difficult journey, Disney stories became his escape and a source of comfort. When his treatments ended, Alex’s wish to visit Walt Disney World was granted. It wasn’t just a trip; it was the celebration of his strength, a moment of joy for his family, and a way to heal together.
Right now, 145 Western Massachusetts children like Alex are waiting for their wishes to come true—moments of hope, joy, and relief that can transform their lives during the toughest times. As a parent, I’m deeply grateful that my own child is healthy. Supporting kids who face unimaginable challenges feels like the least I can do.
My goal is to raise $12,500—enough to grant one wish—and I need your help to make this happen.

In honor of today’s worldwide “Thank a Golf Course Superintendent Day,” we would like to offer a sincere THANK YOU to the five superintendents that have shaped LCC into what it is today.

First, we have Al Locke (1925-1955), who started working at LCC as a mechanic and took over as greenskeeper. He did the Club great service especially during the Depression years. He was a member of the CGSA and served on the advisory board of the MGA.

Next was Leon St. Pierre (1955- 1992), who came to LCC with a background in turf management and private golf course experience. He served as president of the GCSA of New England and was inducted into the Western Mass Golf Hall of Fame.

Following was Rich Derby (1992-2019), a Longmeadow native who worked at LCC for four years under St. Pierre, taking over when he retired. Derby was at the helm when LCC hosted the USGA Junior Amateur and Girls Junior Amateur, making sure that the course conditions exceeded expectations.

Pat Sisk (2019-2023) joined LCC after working at one of the top 100 ranked golf courses in the world. Sisk oversaw the course for the 2022 Mass Open, during which the course received tremendous feedback.

The most important to us today, is Matthew Santos (2023 – present). Matt has an impressive background in Turf Management, including a degree in Turf Management and 15+ years of golf course experience. Matt is an avid golfer himself, and his dedication to Longmeadow Country Club can easily be seen in the course conditions throughout the summer. Matt battled against 25+ inches of rain this summer and was still able to improve the overall conditions of our prestigious course.

Matt, we want to extend a sincere thank you for all of the hard work you have done.

Above all, Matt vehemently insists that his entire team is the reason behind his successes. As such, a huge thank you to all of the grounds maintenance staff currently at LCC (including those not pictured).

We appreciate your hard work and dedication, today, and every day.

Club History

Longmeadow Club History

The Club was organized in 1922 when it assembled several parcels of land and engaged Ross. Traversing subtle and, at times, dramatic terrain, the architect's routing calls for the judicious use of both power and finesse. His knowledge of the game combined with unique horse drawn shapers produced the complex aprons and putting surfaces that were the crowning glory of a Ross creation. The course was completed in 1924 followed by the clubhouse in 1926 when Architecture magazine featured Longmeadow including the landscape architecture of Frederick Law Olmsted. Racquet sports and aquatics have since rounded out the Club's sporting facilities.

In 1927, Longmeadow hired its first professional, J. Victor East of Australia. A world renowned club maker and teacher who counted the Prince of Wales as a student, East's presence completed the founders' vision of a golfing club. By 1932, as the first head of nearby A.G. Spalding's Custom Built Department, East was working secretly with icon Robert Tyre Jones and founding member Milton Reach to produce the country's first matched set of flanged soled irons with steel shafts, technological breakthroughs that helped sustain Spalding through the Great Depression and ushered in a remarkable parade of players who used Longmeadow as a proving ground for the company's equipment.

Certainly one of the Club's more fortunate legacies, it would not have been uncommon during the 30's to find a Byron Nelson, Jimmy Thomson, Horton Smith, Harry Cooper, Leo Diegel, Lawson Little, Paul Runyan, Tommy Armour or Bob Jones at Longmeadow testing Spalding clubs, playing with members or putting on group demonstrations. Indeed, Jones was himself a member and held the course record for years. A particularly impressive round was an even par 70 by Armour in a westerly gale where the World War I hero and Scottish billiard champ used a seven iron for his second to the par five tenth and two full drivers to number twelve.
