🥊🇵🇷 REST IN POWER, PRICHARD COLÓN 🇵🇷🥊 Today we lost a good one!
On October 17, 2015, the life of one of Puerto Rico’s brightest young boxing stars changed forever.
Prichard Colón entered the ring at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, undefeated at 16-0 with 13 knockouts, facing fellow unbeaten fighter Terrel Williams.
Throughout the fight, Colón was struck repeatedly with dangerous punches to the back of the head — commonly known as rabbit punches and repeatedly brought the illegal blows to the attention of referee Joe Cooper.
Williams was eventually deducted one point in the seventh round for a rabbit punch. But other blows to the back of Prichard’s head went without additional penalties, including a devastating shot late in the ninth round as Colón was going down.
After the fight, Prichard walked back to his dressing room under his own power.
Then everything changed.
He became dizzy. He began vomiting. He collapsed.
Prichard was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered bleeding in his brain and performed emergency surgery to relieve the pressure.
He would remain in a coma for 221 days.
What happened on October 17, 2015 became bigger than one fight, one victory or one loss. It became a painful reminder of the responsibility everyone in boxing carries when a fighter steps between those ropes.
For more than a decade afterward, Prichard continued fighting — just in a completely different arena.
His courage, his resilience, and the unconditional love and dedication of his family inspired millions around the world.
Today, we don’t remember Prichard Colón for how his final fight ended.
We remember the warrior.
We remember the undefeated prospect who carried Puerto Rico with pride.
We remember the fighter who never stopped fighting. 🇵🇷
