Come to DOG-O-RAMA and take the Canine Good Citizen test! DOG-O-RAMA supports responsible pet ownership and of course we want all dogs to be able to be out and about in the community.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen™ (CGC) program provides a perfect framework for training your dog to become a polite member of society. Here are the 10 test items on the CGC test that every dog should master to be great dog citizens:

**Accepting a friendly stranger – will your dog sit or stand calmly and nicely when someone greets you with a handshake and ignores your dog?

**Sitting politely for petting - will your dog remain sitting if you ask them to when someone asks if they may pet your dog and then comes in for a quick pet?

**Appearance and grooming – is your dog clean and well groomed, and will they stand calmly while someone checks their ears, their body and their feet? Will your dog allow someone to run a brush through their coat?

**Out for a walk (loose lead walking) – can your dog walk nicely on a loose leash with you even when you turn this way and that way?

**Walking through a crowd – can you walk through a crowd in control? Will your dog slow or speed up with you as needed to maneuver through a crowd?

**Sit and down on cue/Staying in place – does your dog know the basics of sit and down? Can you walk to the end of a 20 foot leash and will your dog remain in place when told to “stay”?

**Coming when called – does your dog come when called?

**Reaction to another dog - can you pass someone who also has a dog, and will your dog remain calm (not pulling and not reacting) while you exchange pleasantries?

**Reaction to distractions – can your dog handle a distraction such as someone dropping a metal bowl, without panicking or showing aggression?

**Supervised separation – if you asked someone to hold your dog for a minute while you returned to your car to grab something, would your dog calmly wait with that person for your return?

If your dog isn't ready yet, no worries - you have 3 months to practice!! Train alone or with friends! 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference!

Are you getting ready for DOG-O-RAMA 9/18-20? Walking your dog with friends is a great way to get prepared. And nothing is more beautiful and relaxing than walking on the beautiful Discovery Trail in Long Beach, WA.

When you are relaxed and moving forward, your dogs tend to relax and move forward too!

AND this is a great way to expose your dog to other dogs and sights and sounds like bicycles, scooters and kids! Stay moving forward or step off to the side of the trail if you need to. The more you do it, the easier it gets!

So relax, keep 'em moving, and enjoy the view!

Today we pups take a moment to honor the brave two legged humans who have sacrificed so much for us. 🇺🇸🐾

Today, on Memorial Day, we’re feeling extra thankful for the heroes who made it possible for us to:
🇺🇸 Eat all the food the humans accidentally drop on the floor
🇺🇸 Work hard at taking professional daily naps
🇺🇸 Alert the entire neighborhood when anything moves outside, even a leaf falling from a tree (everyone need to know, seriously…)
🇺🇸 And stop every 3 feet on our daily missions to leave a important neighborhood messages for our friends to find

From all of us with four paws at DOG-O-RAMA, thank you! 😊

We hope your Memorial Day is filled with sunshine, waggin’ tails, good table scraps, and those awe inspiring butt scratches.

And, if one of us happens to steal a hot dog from the BBQ, just remember we’re celebrating our freedom too! 🐾🇺🇸❤️🦴
