Cody Koa Maverick 2016-2026
To say Cody will be missed is truly an understatement. He was a once-in-a-lifetime dog, the kind you don’t realize how rare they are until you’re standing in the quiet after they’re gone. Being with him nearly every day makes this loss hit especially hard. Looking over at his bed and not seeing his wiggly, smiling face waiting for us is something I still can’t wrap my head around.
So many of you watched Cody grow up at the shop. He was there almost every day, from the early mornings to closing time, quietly becoming part of the rhythm of the place. He greeted customers, supervised repairs, napped in the sun, and kept an eye on everything as our very official, self-appointed “Chief of Security”. He knew the sounds, the people, the routines. The shop doesn’t feel the same without him and it won’t for a long time.
Last week, Cody finally let us know it was time. He fought incredibly hard over the last eight months after his cancer diagnosis and amputation. What amazed us most was that through all of it, he never stopped being Cody. He showed his true spirit every single day - strong, gentle, stubborn in the best way, and still finding reasons to make people smile even when things were unbelievably hard.
There were moments when we thought we had more time, and moments when we knew we didn’t. Loving him meant listening when he told us he was tired, even when our hearts weren’t ready. Letting him go was the hardest thing we’ve ever done, but it was also the last promise we could keep to him and to put his comfort and dignity first.
Cody touched more people than we ever realized. He wasn’t just our dog; he belonged to this place and this community in a quiet, steady way. While he’s no longer here in person, he leaves behind so much love, so many memories, and a presence that will always be felt when we open the door or glance at the spot where he used to sleep.
Thank you, buddy, for nine and a half unforgettable years. Thank you for the loyalty, the calm, the joy, the strength, and the lessons you didn’t even know you were teaching us. We will miss you every single day, and we will carry you with us always. 💙🐾
