E-bike laws in NYC may be changing... again. The hearing is this Wednesday, Sept 30, at 10 AM: 21 bills and 2 resolutions on e-bikes, delivery apps, Citi Bike and street design.
Swipe for what each one would actually do, in plain language, and how to speak up.
When we opened in 2011, e-bikes weren’t legal in New York. After we moved to Brooklyn in 2015, the city fined us $25,000. We fought it, and watched the rules slowly get fairer. These bills land on real people too: delivery workers who ride all day, commuters, parents and people on foot. Whatever you think of them, it’s worth being heard.
How do you feel about it? Tell us in the comments. Then get the word out to friends who ride and friends who don’t, and speak up so you’re represented.
How to speak up:
• Testify in person or on Zoom: sign up at council.nyc.gov/testify (you’ll usually get 2 minutes; for Zoom, sign up early)
• Send it in writing: [email protected] or council.nyc.gov/testify, up to 72 hours after the hearing
• Watch live: council.nyc.gov/livestream
