Almost time to get your feet sandy. Two weeks until the fall portion of our tournament schedule kicks off in Ocean City! Information is posted on the web site.

Our story begins over one hundred years ago. Word was spreading that there was good fishing right off the LBI beaches. Intrigued anglers adept at freshwater fishing and within reach were ready to tackle the ocean. Great fishing starts with opportunity and on June 20, 1914, the first causeway bridge connecting Manahawkin to Ship Bottom opened. For travelers, it wasn’t easy. They had to navigate the long dirt and gravel roads through the pine barrens. All the main roads connecting Philly and Trenton to the shore weren’t paved and those early tires were nothing like today’s tires. Often times you’d get a flat, if not two. And right after the causeway opened, WWI broke out. The war ended on November 11, 1918, so despite the long drive and rough roads, there was a way and it was game on for those wanting to try their luck at surf fishing.🎣🌊☀️

Today is opening day for the 72nd Annual LBI Surf Fishing Classic!

Register online at www.lbisfc.com for your chance to win a piece of the more than $25,000 in cash and prizes. Daily and weekly cash prizes are available for weighing in the largest Striped Bass and Bluefish. Weekly cash prizes are available for weighing in the largest Fluke, Kingfish, and Tautog. You can win bonus cash prizes for weighing in the largest Weakfish and Red Drum of the tournament. In the Surf Master catch-photo-release category, the angler who enters the largest (overall length) Striped Bass (36" or larger) will receive a full-size replica mount of the winning fish from Rinehart Taxidermy and a custom rod by John Parzych. There are also Bonus Prizes and Special Daily Awards available throughout the tournament.

After you register online, visit Fishermans Headquarters, Jingles Bait and Tackle, or Surf City Bait and Tackle to get your numbered badge. Registration fee is $40 for adults, $20 for juniors 17 and under. A free tournament hat and sticker is available to all who register while supplies last.

LBI is a magical place with a long storied history of terrific fishing. Entering their 72nd fall derby, the LBI Surf Fishing Classic, provides anglers the unique opportunity to become part of the island’s surf fishing history. I claimed my own small piece of history when a kingfish I caught on an October morning not only won me the daily prize, it also got we the Segment 1 grand prize. Feast your eyes on my $175 kingfish! CONGRATULATIONS to Robb Regan on winning today’s prize for largest fluke! Great job sir🥇This reflects Robb’s skill and dedication when it comes to fluke fishing the surf. Afterwards, Robb and I went to the north end beach and had 2 hours of of non-stop bite on the outgoing. We put 30 fish on the beach during this time. Fluke to 17” with some snapper blues sprinkled in. And who doesn’t like sprinkles?! On the day we caught kingfish, croaker, bluefish and fluke. We had a hedonistic vibe all day with this weather.
