15 years ago, San Francisco Chronicle pulled up a chair at one of my tables. 🀄

I was 32, teaching nine new players (lawyers, nurses, a photographer) how to read the card, build a hand, and fall for the game I grew up with at my mother’s table.

Mahj Club started in my apartment in 2009 with one simple idea: mahjong fosters human connection

That idea traveled. Today we bring the same patient, joyful teaching to partners like Bowers Museum The California Club TheMotherhoodConnection J Long Beach (Alpert JCC) at corporate events, private clubs and community programs across California.

Same tiles. Same table energy. Much bigger room.

We’re so excited to invite you on the California Coastal Mahjong Cruise, March 14-21, 2027, aboard the Emerald Princess.

We’ll have daily mahjong sessions at sea, all skill levels welcome, at no extra cost.
