Ever wonder why 1 pin loaded machine feels lighter or heavier than another?
It has to do with physics. Pulleys change the direction the force is applied, giving you a "mechanical advantage".
Work= Force× Distance, which means that if you want to use less force, you have to increase the distance. More pulleys increase the amount of cable being used, which increases the distance, giving you a greater mechanical advantage.
How is this applied?
Simple:
Let's say the weight is 60lbs, a single pulley system would mean that you still have to use 60lbs of force. It will feel a bit easier since you're pull down ⬇️ WITH gravity instead of having to pull up ⬆️AGAINST gravity, but 60lbs of force will still need to be applied.
A TWO pulley system will give you a 2:1 advantage, so you'll only have to apply 30lbs of force
A THREE pulley system has a 3:1 advantage, meaning you'll only have to apply 20lbs.
So on and so forth.
In summary, the MORE pulleys and cable the machine has the LIGHTER it's going to feel.
The LESS pulleys and cable used the HEAVIER it's going to feel.
