Since this is a public forum and gossip is already spreading like fire in this little town, ill just say this:
I am the owner of Coiled Custom Fi****ms llc. the home based gunsmith who was burgled in loma on 1/20. I was burgled by someone i helped raise since he was a teenager, and some accomplices of his whom i have no connection to. He knew how to get around my cameras and when my house would be empty, he knew where my safe was and took the whole damn thing. I dont know what his motives were for falling in with the wrong crowd like this after all the opportunities he had to make a good life for himself legitimately. Opportunities often provided BY ME and my friends and family, and im completely blown away by the level of backstabbing betrayal that this represents.
Although most of the stolen goods were recovered and i did have insurance, my business will still take a relatively significant financial hit because of this, not to mention the immeasurable hit to the public image of my business. Its a mess i will be mopping up for probably the next decade, if my career survives at all. (For public information, i will be installing 8 additional cameras and a 1,000lb safe before resuming business(out of pocket)and all customers with fi****ms or suppressors involved will have their items retuned or replaced(also out of my pocket))
It took 3 days to recover about 80% of what was stolen including all but 1 functional gun, which is actually pretty damn incredible for a case like this. Its a miracle the stuff wasnt found states or countries away months or years later, or not at all, or involved in some heinous crime, as happens often with stolen fi****ms. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office took the case very seriously, devoted a lot of manpower, and did a very good job. And with the help of the ATF they got all but one of the guns off the streets including ALL the NFA items before they were used, and *are still* following leads on the remaining stolen items, and thats whats important.
I also want to thank the community at large as well as all the FFLs (gun stores) and pawn shops in the area for their willingness to aid in locating and returning the stolen items. After a hit like this it did my heart good to see so many people and businesses willing to help bring this situation to the best end that could be hoped for.
Updates on my business' status will be posted as they happen.
