Blaze Corral Mustang Offense & Win 34-6
Posted: Sunday, June 17th 2012
The Idaho Mustangs left with nothing more than six points and hopes for next season, as your Bitterroot Blaze defense made it very clear who would be moving on to the AA Semi-Finals.
The Blaze defense held the Mustangs to 7 First Downs on the day. Tackles were spread all over the defense with Zeiler and Steiner leading on the day with 4.5 each, eight of those tackles for a loss. The pressure on the QB was relentless all day, as your Blaze deflected 7 of the QB pass attempts, making the Mustang air attack futile. Kurt Rausch hauled in a Mustang pass for an interception for 27 yards, and the solo sack on the day came from Chance Brawley.
The Offense as well forced their will upon the tough Mustang Defense, putting 34 Points on the Darby High School scoreboard keeping the game out of reach of any comeback attempt. Mr. Jurasek and Company tallied 393 yards of offense, spreading the duties around to multiple runners and receivers.
Through the air, the Elgin-Taylor show brought in 4 receptions for two scores and 67 yards, as well as catches by Newbarry, 3-58, Coorough, 3-27, Stock 4-48, Scolatti, 1-11, and Jamie Jones on a fake field goal for a touchdown.
On the ground, Paul Stock led all runners, with 75 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. It was a team rushing effort though, as several rushers took turns pushing through the Mustang D-line, Hausknecht 3-31, Rausch 5-18, B. Brawley 2-6, Jurasek 5-53.
Erik Peterson added 2 field goals, 4 Extra Points and a TD saving tackle to boot.
All in all it was a great team effort to ensure a home field Semi-Final game for the Bitterroot Valley.
Next week, the Blaze face a great team in the Uintah Basin Oilers, which should make for some exciting football for those who like a defensive battle, as this game pits this season's two most stingy defenses in a head to head match up.
Kickoff is 7:00pm in Darby.
Come root on your home team, in their pursuit of a Championship.
Go Blaze!!!!
