RJ Clem Qualifies for the ISHAA State Track & Field Championship Meet by winning the discus competition.

The Berries will be sending two competitors to the State Meet next week after RJ Clem threw the discus a personal best distance of 167 feet 9 inches. Clem beat his old mark of 160 feet 1 inch by over 7 feet. He will compete against 23 other competitors in the discus event at the Boys State Meet on Saturday, June 6 North Central High School in Indianapolis. Clem had hoped to also qualify in the shot put, but after the discus event he was off just a little in the shot put and finished in 7th place.

The Berries girls team will be represented by Alette Woodhouse at the Girls State Meet in the 1600 Meter run on Friday, June 5.

The Berries boys 4x 800 meter relay team of Eli Schurter, Jonathan Miranda, Anthony Zarate, and Samuel Sebastian, Jr. finished 11th at the Regional with a time of 8:33 after entering the race seeded 16th.

BREAKING NEWS!

Sophomore Alette Woodhouse received a “call back” on Wednesday evening and will be competing at the IHSAA State Track & Field Meet in Indianapolis on Friday, June 5th.

A “call back” occurs when an athlete who finishes in the top 3 places at any of the 8 Regional sites scratches from an event. Usually the athlete who scratches out of an event has qualified in two or more events at the State Meet. Because of the high level of competition at the State level, the athlete chooses to just focus on the event they feel they are most likely to have success in. This opens up spots in the field and the IHSAA goes to the next highest non-qualifying athletes to fill the field. Alette’s 1600 time of 5:13.33 at the Lafayette Regional put her in position to receive the call back.

The State Meet appearance will complete a breakout sophomore year for Alette. During the Fall cross country season she set the LHS 5K record and then broke her own record again. This track season she set the 3200 Meter record and then lowered it a second time. She also broke the 42 year old 800 meter school record this season, previously held by Logansport’s Kim Briggs who finished 2nd in the 1600 meter run at the State Meet in 1984.

Alette Woodhouse advanced to the IHSAA Lafayette Jeff Track & Field Regional this Tuesday evening in the 1600 Meter Run. Alette finished 2nd in the Kokomo Sectional. Go Alette - Go Berries!

Rylee Zimmerman advanced to the Lafayette Jeff IHSAA Track and Field Regional this Tuesday evening in two events: the Long Jump and the High Jump. Rylee finished in 2nd place in both events at the Kokomo Sectional. Go Rylee - Go Berries!
