River Bluff Trail

River Bluff Trail Downtown Logansport, in Cass County, IN is home to River Bluff Trail. Located between Michigan Ave.

and Davis Road, along Eel River, this trail is a vision-turned reality for the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Logansport community. Understanding the impact that unhealthy lifestyles have on communities, their aim was to create a trail to promote physical activity. In 2002, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources granted $150,000 to build a simple crushed-stone trail along aba

ndoned portions of the Vandalia Railroad corridor. An additional $700,000 was raised through a local campaign to improve upon the trail’s original plans. Opened in 2004, River Bluff Trail is a well maintained, 1.3 mile asphalt pathway that is accessible to all. Some of its features include benches, a picnic area and parking at both ends of the trail. The trail leads through wooded areas providing lots of shade, three bridges and an area to launch canoes and kayaks. More than 4000 users visit the trail each week making it a popular destination for public leisure and recreation, as well as, school and scheduled events. The trail is open year round and allows for walking, jogging, bicycling and inline skating. With the success of River Bluff Trail, the Memorial Hospital Foundation continued its quest for a healthy community by opening the Hervey Preserve on October 12, 2007. Thirty-five acres of heavily wooded land along both sides of Horney Creek features a 1.1 mile crushed-stone trail that meanders throughout the preserve connecting to River Bluff Trail. Hervey Preserve also boasts a 90 foot labyrinth, nature paths and a picnic pavilion.
