This group of international students from Cincinnati came together for a river adventure with Hocking Hills Adventures. They represent countries from all over the world, including Panama, Chile, China, Peru, Mexico, and Indonesia.

Different languages. Different cultures. Different backgrounds.

One of the best parts of spending a day on the Hocking River is never knowing what you'll see around the next bend.

Today our guests spotted this family of geese enjoying a sunny afternoon on a sandbar. From great blue herons and turtles to deer and river otters, the Hocking River is full of surprises.

Sometimes the adventure isn't just the paddlingโ€”it's taking a moment to enjoy the wildlife and beauty that make this place so special.

Our buses have hauled generations of paddlers to the river, and after half a century of adventure, we thought they deserved a little makeover.

No fancy buildings. No fleet of buses. No campground. No yurts. No tubes No social media. No clean launch sites Just a few canoes, lots of mud , and someone who refused to quit . When others doubted, he doubled down. I think he always dreamed it would be something special, but I doubt he knew it would take 50 years of hard work, sacrifice, and grit to get it.

The American Dream isnโ€™t glamorous. Most of the time it's long days, tough seasons, setbacks, and sticking with your vision when everyone else thinks youโ€™re nuts. The ones who keep going (no matter what the naysayers say) are the ones who win.

Fifty years later, Hocking Hills Adventures is still here because one man believed in an idea and refused to give up.

Hereโ€™s to preserving the dream, honoring the past, and continuing the adventure for the next generation.

Today, Ohio State Representative Mark Johnson stopped by Hocking Hills Adventures to present us with a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives recognizing our 50th Anniversary.

While my name may be in the photo accepting this recognition, this award belongs to my dad, Lew Barbini. He put the work in when no one cared. He started a tourism business in the Hocking Hills when the main economic driver was manufacturing! Long before the Hocking Hills became what it is today.

Fifty years ago, he started a small family business on the Hocking River with a vision of sharing the outdoors with others. Through hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance, he built something that has stood the test of time.

And the greatest testament to this is

Many businesses come and go, but because of the foundation Lew built, Hocking Hills Adventures is still going strong after half a century.

Nestled back in the woods, not only does this yurt boast peaceful melodies provided by nature, but we have also provided bird feeders for your viewing pleasure and a book to help you identify the birds you see/hear! We canโ€™t wait to get this open for our first guests!
