A race is produced to Facebook well when the runners are smiling at the finish. The Lucky Leprechaun 5k did not disappoint. A record crowd of 293 runners tested a new course that will be certified for the Locust Locust 5K, Lucky Leprechaun 5k and Gobble Wobble 5K.
Runners gave a thumbs up to the new course that flowed much better, by eliminating the down and back turnaround that was previously used.
Special Shout-Out to Lyla Salazar for completing the race in 1:23:10 - She completed the entire race using crutches, as she has a stress fracture in her left leg. So much determination.
Shirts were a big hit, as well as the Lucky Leprechaun cookies from Sassy Cakes. Awards provided by The Trophy Shop were wonderful.
About 200 runners beat the Leprechaun to the finish line and won a free 14-inch pizza from Emricci Pizzeria. Thank you Megan for being a great leprechaun!
Kudos to Connie Dr. Connie’s Market for organizing another first-class event. Cookie and the Crew from the West Stanly Senior Center once again were huge in making packet pick-up run smooth.
The Stanly County Amateur Radio Club once again, helped keep the runners safe. (So sorry if I forgot to recognize someone.)
