Koyama Dojo is the Honbu of Hakko Denshin Ryu JuJutsu (HDRJJ) in North America, carrying forward the traditions of Shodai Soke Lamonica. With over 20 years under our belts, our instructors teach the Shihan/Deshi style with a personal touch. Traveling from Hasselt, Belgium for the 2026 North American Tai Kai: Soke Antonio García, head of Hakko Denshin Ryu.

Soke García found Hakko Ryu in 1974 and trained in Japan under Shodai Soke Okuyama, the founder of the art. In 1981 he became the first European ever awarded Menkyo Kaiden Shihan San Dai Kichu, and in 1997 he co-founded Hakko Denshin Ryu with Soke Michael LaMonica and Soke Irie Yasuhiro. Today the art counts more than 1,500 members worldwide. He learned the art from its source. This October, he brings it to ours.

Hanshi Scott Evans and Koyama Dojo, Honbu Dojo for North America, are honored to welcome him to Livonia.

Teaching at the 2026 North American Tai Kai: Hanshi Alberto Blanco of Madrid, Spain.

Alberto met Soke Antonio García at a congress in Madrid in 1995, when the art was still called Hakko Ryu, and began traveling to the Hombu Dojo in Belgium to train. He earned his Kaiden Shihan in Tokyo in 2019, at the Tai Kai in Omiya, and was named Hanshi this year. He has trained since he was seven, across karate, judo, jiu-jitsu, kobudo and Filipino Kali, and for twenty-seven years his profession has been teaching martial arts. He leads HDRJJ España and teaches at clubs throughout the country.

Ask him what he wants students to take away and he does not talk about technique: "Martial arts is more than just throwing punches or grabbing a wrist."
