“Hello, remember me? Some people call me ‘Old Glory,’ others call me the Star Spangled Banner. But, whatever they call me, I’m your flag… the flag of the United States of America. Something has been bothering me, so, I thought I’d talk it over with you because it’s about me and you. Not too long ago, people were lining up on both sides of the street to see a parade go by, and, naturally, I was leading that parade. Proudly waving in the breeze. And when your daddy saw me coming, he would immediately remove his hat and place it over his left shoulder… so his right hand would be over his heart. And you, you standing there… right next to your dad. You didn’t have a hat, and your little sister, not to be outdone was standing right next to you. Both of you had your right hand over your heart.

What has happened now? I don’t feel as proud as I used to… I’m still the same ole flag. I see children playing around, shouting. They don’t seem to know or care who I am, what I stand for. I saw an elderly gentleman who took his hat off, but when he saw others with theirs on, he turned around and slowly walked away.

Hey, I’m still the same ole flag. A few stars have been added since those parades long ago. A lot of blood has been shed. Is it a sin to be patriotic anymore? Have you forgotten who I am? What I stand for? And where I’ve been? Anzio, Guadalcanal, Korea, Vietnam. Take a good look one of these days… at the memorial honor roll… of all the names that never came back. They gave their lives for this great nation to be free. Under God. When you salute me, you salute each and every one of them. Well, it won’t be long now, and I’ll be coming down the street leading the parade and proudly waving in the breeze. So, when you see me coming, stand up straight and salute. And I’ll salute you… by waving back. And then I’ll know, that you remember.”

From all of us at PFS, we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! As another year comes to a close, I would like to personally thank everyone who has helped out with classes and training this year and to all the students who put in the hard work. We could not do what we do without you. Thank you! As we head into 2024, this will be our 14th year of saving lives and helping those professionals who go into harm’s way. While we remain quiet in the social media world and for good reason there is new and exciting things coming in the New Year!

Just got back from teaching two courses in the Phoenix area (Chandler, AZ) hosted by Chris with Core Dynamics Fi****ms Training. I also attended a course myself while I was in town. I can not recommend CDFT enough, they were great hosts, professional and are putting out quality training and information. Chris is very passionate and cares about his students and his community. If your traveling to the area or live in Arizona I highly recommend CDFT, its definitely worth your time. You won't be disappointed.

Repost from oafnation_actual. Very well said.

More than two decades later and I still find myself in a place of introspection about 9/11 and the Global War on Terrorism.

In one hand, I’m proud to have served my country as a US Marine. I’m proud to have conducted myself in an honorable manner with a warrior’s compassion, having not done a single thing I regret to any local national in Iraq or Afghanistan. But in the other, I cannot honestly sit here as I write this and act like I, or any US troop, did anything to truly avenge those who died, or in the macro, make the world a better place.

On that day almost three-thousand innocent people lost their lives and thousands more Americans subsequently died from second and third order effects of 9/11 and the Global War on Terror. Worse yet, hundreds of thousands of innocent people in the middle east and southwest Asia, that had nothing to do with 9/11, became collateral casualties and were killed just by consequence of being born in the “wrong” country. And lest we forget, millions of lives ruined in the near east and Af/Pak.

We should never forget 9/11 but as Americans we need to come to a point of intellectual honesty with ourselves about the fact that we seem to have learned nothing as we are now at each other throats on a daily basis. The world needs us to be and do better than we have for the past two decades and we are failing. But while we are failing, we have not yet failed.

If you read this in the sea of platitudinal 9/11 posts, please take a moment to reflect not only on our losses, but the losses we’ve inflicted around the world in the name of a victory that never came.

Let’s take today to reflect on how we can reunite and collectively be better not just for us, but for the world.
