Footgolf Arkansas was started to help promote the game of Footgolf in the state of Arkansas. This game will help supplement revenues at golf courses as well as introducing people to the game of golf. A similar game called "KickGolf" has been played on the par3 Honors course at The First Tee of Central Arkansas for the past five years by the superintendent Bob Hinn and his family and friends. KickG
olf and Footgolf differ in that KickGolf is played on a short course where all the holes are par 3's and 75 yards or shorter. Scoring was done by hitting the flagpole on the golf green with a soccer ball and counting the kicks it took to hit it. Footgolf is played on a course laid out on a regulation length golf course with par 3's. par 4's, and par 5's. The length of the holes vary from 50 yards to 150 yards. An average par 4 golf hole of 400 yards can accommodate 2-3 Footgolf holes. The Footgolf holes are designed to be played across the fairways and roughs with a very large hole (22") placed on greens in the roughs. The soccer ball is kicked until it enters the hole and the kicks counted. Other than the soccer ball, the size of the hole, and the no hands rule, the rules of Footgolf are almost exactly like golf. I have played golf for the past 35 years, and KickGolf for 5 years, and these are the differences I see in the two games. Obviously Footgolf would be cheaper to play as it only requires a ball and a course, where golf requires clubs, balls, and probably many lessons. Anyone can play Footgolf regardless of age, s*x, or experience. If you can walk and kick a ball, you can play Footgolf. I never played golf with my family due to their limited skills. But I have played KickGolf with my wife, daughter, son, and their friends more times that I care to remember. And the sad part is they regularly beat me at it. It is a social game that anyone can play. And of course there is the fitness issue. After being in the golf business for 35 years I have realized that golf is a sport if you walk, and a game if ride a cart. Footgolf offers a scenic walk along beautiful golf holes averaging about 2.5 miles for 18 holes of Footfolf. The thing that makes Footgolf a viable proposition golf courses is the fact that it takes approximately half the time to play Footgolf as it does to play golf. 18 holes of Footgolf can be played in the time it takes to play 9 holes of golf. This makes it possible for Footgolfers and golfers to play on the same golf course at the same time. W will hopefully be offering play on the First Tee Footgolf course starting in 2015.
