Thanks to everyone who attended the Open House on Friday.

What a perfect mix (for me) of:
people I hadn't seen in awhile
locals I had yet to meet
enthusiastic students who brought friends with them
people I'd been talking to and hadn't met yet, and
excited pony-riders.

While I didn't stick to the "schedule" I hope everyone who came had a nice time too.

And thanks to those who shared my posts regarding the event. And to my family, Patti, Joey, and Liz for always being on my team.

Happy Spring!

Love, Kerry

Often we work with our horses 'at liberty'; we do grooming and hanging out without being tied. Often I trim hooves at liberty, sometimes even in the pasture. Sometimes we even saddle up without being haltered or tied. They want to hang out with us. They know they can walk away.

Hello from Heart who will be 29 this month.
The charts I look at equivocate that age to a human around the age of 80+.

Heart is a Quarter Horse/Arab cross who has been with me since he was 5. He's gone where I have gone (college and living away) and has been along for so many changes at the farm: improvements, goodbyes, nutritional changes, students, young horse training, on and on and on.

Heart and I shared a best friend in the horse called Rudy. We said goodbye to Rudy in the fall of 2016. Now Heart has his own little herd of mares: Sandra and Stella. I think he's the happiest he's ever been.

When the indoor went in, we didn't have pasture adjacent like we do now. This meant you had to tack your horse up in the upper barn and walk them down the driveway to the arena. Most people don't even see our upper barn now as it's the mini horse domain. Then after the ride, you'd have to go back up the driveway. We eventually started to put equipment at the arena in the winter, while still using the outdoor arena in the summer so tack would snowbird from one place to another 2x a year. At the time, we only used that closest pasture seasonally (summer grazing), so we didn't think about putting in a gate like we have now. Every year we change something, but winter 2017 you'd ride and then put a cooler on your pony. If you were the last rider of the night you'd be tasked with putting on your headlamp and trek up the hill with Kerry to deposit 6-10 horses into their pasture. Sometimes yoru parent would drive up to give you headlights and keep you from having to walk back down. Sometimes not. Some real character-building happening even with the luxury of winter riding.

Join us after school or after work
3:30pm-7pm

Snow Date: March 27th

For those who have been to the farm before, comment on which horses in our herd we should ask to welcome people.

If you've not been to the farm before, comment on what type of horse is your favorite: breed, color, personality, etc.

Maybe this helps explain some of my words for pre-paying for summer bundles and lessons in the meantime.
