Summer is winding down.
School starts this week.
Look for Fall Riding Subscriptions as I'll post options in the next week.
I hope to even have winter riding subscriptions available so those who want to start their Christmas shopping early.

Speech Therapy, "Hey is for Horses" program is winding down with just one more session. I'm so grateful for the partnership and for our volunteers. And for the ponies, of course!

One of the most effective methods of training a horse to do all sorts of things is the PUTTER system.

To “putter” means to sort of slowly and unconcernedly mess about, with a tiny time agenda.

Horses get confused about things like what is happening in this photo, and in order for the horse to be super chill, the rider has to be super chill.

The horse moves the wrong way? No big deal.
The horse backs up when it should stand still? No big deal.
The horse wants to get quick? No big deal.

Putter, putter, putter. Sooner or later she’ll figure out what I want, and she’ll be a Steady Eddie about it if I haven’t given her any reason to be worried or upset.

Two opposite “P” words, to PRESS or to PUTTER. Putter beats press every time.

I'm terrible at updating this page. This year we are enjoying horses in lessons on Monday, Wed, and Fridays. We started talking about horses in the cool and short days of February and now here we are in the heat and long days of July.

Riding Lessons in the arena, Pony Time, a local Horse Show, Riding lessons outside the arena. Happy little groups of horses and people. It's quite honestly the best group of people coming to the barn on these days and I'm so very very grateful. My horses aren't getting any younger: most are in their 20s. It's not likely we'll be doing this volume of horses and people forever. For now I'm intentionally and softly keeping it. Here's to this warm season of horses and heat of summer.
