Want great Glute development? It has become the biggest craze in fitness in recent years. You often hear the question what is the best Glute exercise? You hear about comparisons between exercises like squats, deadlifts, and lunges, as compared to rdl's, hip thrusts, or glute bridges. Traditionally the back squat has always been the go to for a great Glutes. But now the establishment at large is saying that movements like rdl's, hip thrusts, or glute bridges target the glutes more completely than a back squat or a deadlift or a lunge might. These movements tend to "isolate" the Glute more than a back squat might, for the obvious reasons that exercises like squats and deadlifts also incorporate quads and hamstrings. However, even though Glutes account for a smaller percentage of the recruited (responsible for the move) muscle fiber in an exercise like a squat or a deadlift, as compared to it being the primary mover in an isolation movement like rdl's or hip thrusts, we need to remember that even If they only are a smaller part of a back squat, that it is such a heavy duty compound movement, that even a small percentage of recruitment in such a big or heavy move still activates the glutes profoundly. I would recommend not getting away from your traditional squats, deadlifts and lunges, (As we all know they've been proven to improve the butt 💪🏋️♀️) but to also incorporate rdl's glute bridges, hip thrusts, and some lateral movements like banded side steps, or fire hydrants, or abductor machine for great well rounded Glutes.
