September is Rocky Mountain Horse month! Of course we celebrate them all year around these parts however it’s fun to see them featured on a larger scale. Great little article too! 

September is Rocky Mountain Horse Month! 🐴

Kentucky is home to a breed with a story of its own. The Rocky Mountain Horse traces its roots to eastern Kentucky, where the breed developed in the late 19th century. Horses suited to the region needed to be dependable, versatile and comfortable to ride across the Appalachian terrain.

Today, the RMH is recognized for its naturally smooth four-beat gait and calm, willing nature. The breed also has a distinctive look, often associated with a chocolate-colored coat and flaxen mane and tail.

The Rocky Mountain Horse Association was founded in Kentucky in 1986 to help preserve the breed and its history. More than a century after its development, the RMH remains part of the diverse equine heritage that makes Kentucky’s horse industry unique.

At this point in my life, I’ve learned that two things can be true at once. ❤️

Recon’s new owner in Denmark sent me these pictures last week of him on the beach. They were the first pictures I’d seen of him in months, and they absolutely cracked my heart wide open…while delighting me at the very same time.

I miss that beautiful boy. But I’m also so happy knowing he is loved, thriving, and doing exactly what he was meant to do.

He’s had a wonderful spring and summer and was bred to six of her mares. What a good boy, Recon! ❤️

Mission accomplished! Recon is finally in his new home in Denmark. We are all relieved!

Recon made it to Frankfurt! After a month at the holding facility in TX he was flown from Houston to Dallas then straight to Frankfurt. He will be then shipped to Denmark Tuesday or Wednesday. As expected he has handled all the loading, unloading, new places, loading on an airplane like a perfect gentleman. I will be so relieved when he’s in his new home, safe, settled and happy!

It’s been a hard month with him leaving, Ebony moved to her new home in Prescott Valley and poor Six struggling with his gelding. While I am very content with the decisions I have made for the herd….it has certainly been an emotional roller coaster!

Somebody is happy to be home! Recon has been up at the reproduction clinic taking care of some AI mares and being collected for frozen semen. We had compliments from the reproduction manager, Dr Cory and the barn manager, who also wanted to know more about these Rocky Mountain horses….
His docile behavior also earned him daily turnout which is not something they usually offer stallions. I brag not for my sake…he’s not mine anymore. But for the sake of the breed and why we must continue to grow this endangered horse! He will be heading to Texas for quarantine next week so I’m enjoying every last second with him now.
