It's time to start thinking about how you are going to move forward in 2024. The best way to gain success is with an accountability partner. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are two essential fatty acids that have a wide range of health benefits. Both are important for the body to function properly, but they can also compete with each other in the body. It's important to maintain a balanced ratio between them for optimal health.

Omega 3 fatty acids are found mainly in fish, nuts, seeds and plant oils such as flaxseed oil and h**p seed oil. They play an important role in reducing inflammation throughout the body, supporting brain development and functioning, promoting healthy skin, helping regulate hormones and more.

On the other hand, Omega 6 fatty acids can be found primarily in vegetable oils like soybean oil or sunflower oil as well as certain nuts and seeds like walnuts or pumpkin seeds. They too help reduce inflammation but have been linked to increased levels of inflammation when consumed in excess relative to omega 3s.

Ideally we should aim for a balance between these two types of fats – somewhere around 3:1 or 4:1 omega-6/omega-3 is recommended by many experts - however most western diets tend to contain far more omega 6 than omega 3 due to our reliance on processed foods which often include vegetable oils that are high in omega-6s yet low in beneficial polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs). This imbalance has been linked with higher risk of numerous diseases including heart disease, obesity etc so it’s important we try to get our ratios back into balance if possible!

To do this you could start making small changes such as swapping out unhealthy cooking oils (like corn & safflower) with healthier alternatives (such as olive & coconut). Additionally increasing your intake of high quality sources of both Omega 3 & 6 can also help improve your overall ratio; some great sources include oily fish like salmon & mackerel along with walnuts & chia seeds for Omega-3s while almonds & sunflower seeds provide good amounts of both types!
