What do these two exercises have in common?
The improve your ability to maintain body control in compromised positions (spins, turns, extension, etc) by strengthening & coordinating your muscles in movement.

Exercise 1: standing kick backs
Exercise 2: standing hip abductors
3 sets of about 10 reps. Don’t rush! (The exercises have been sped up by 1.2x for the reel.) And try to maintain awareness of which muscles you are actively working.

✅Increased power: A well-executed kick can be several times more powerful than a maximum-effort punch.
✅Greater range: The legs are longer than the arms, providing a longer reach to keep an opponent at a distance or target areas that are further away.

(Of course, it is not always just the strike that makes something devastating but the striker.😉)

When I first learned spinning hook kick, I was actually very bad at it. Other students were getting it faster than I did and I was so bummed. But I kept at it and with practice and guidance little by little I improved. Until years down the line this kick is one of my favorites to throw and to teach!

So here are some technical tips I wish I knew to focus on when I was first learning spinning hook kick!

Rhythm is the harmony of movement. One factor that contributes towards success in sparring is the ability to break your opponent’s “rhythm.”
