Here we have Fresh and Tasty- AKA FAT. As far as I know it was published by two Loon Mountain employees Bethany and Melissa. I remember them sort of. It was a ground breaking Women's snowboarding mag. Even though it must have been fairly small time the magazines appearance is up to par with all the others. Looking back through the issues I really enjoyed how much they highlighted women atlhetes. There were also articles on gear, music etc.

Snowboarder Magazine. The first issue is the Winter 1988 issue with Damian Sanders on the cover. Here are some more photos of locals including Eric Webster and Chris Karol. The last one is from the 1991 Photo Spectacular. Here Craig Kelly shows off his signature Burton Air. I'm not sure when it happens but the shift to Burton everywhere has begun.

Transworld Snowboarding

Here we have the First issue from Fall 1987 and the first Photo Annual ( No date in the entire magazine). I assume also from 1987.

Some highlights:
The Bad Boy Club one piece suits would be the envy of any 80's day party.
SPS Bindings. "Don't accept less!" then plastic junk with Salomon rear entry boots.
Craig Kelly riding for Sims. Looking back everything was Sims, Barfoot and Avalanche. Burton was in at the start but they weren't quite part of the scene at this time. Very few burton ads or photos.
The Performers was an issue about the stars of the age.
Damian Sanders, Terry Kidwell, Shaun Palmer, Dave Achenbach, Craig Kelly and Evan Feen.
Check out this Barfoots ad. Look at his boots. Still Sorels with ski boot liners.

Next up INTERNATIONAL SNOWBAORDER " The First Mag. The Last word."

First 2 photos are from the November 1987 issue. These Highlight the New England Cup Race Series. Photos are at Loon Mountain. I especially love the 2nd one. Local boy Eric Webster on Rumrunner.

The next one is from the December 1987 issue. Notice that NONE of these boots are actually made for Snowboarding.

The last 3 are from the 1989 and 1990 Glide Guide. Look for the Aunt Ester "Steamer".

Lets start our Highlights with these two Burton catalogs. I think it was the summer of 1985. I spent all summer staring at the catalog on the right dreaming. Then the next winter when I worked at the Loon Mountain Rental Shop we got to use the boards for free when it wasn't busy.

Cruzer 165 - Dream board!!

Look at the boots in the third photo. Your kidding me.

Fast Tec Bindings Fourth photo. Possibly the worst ever.

Side note: Boots. That winter I got to know all the Loon snowboarders. I would save the liners each time a pair of rental boots broke. Everyone used Sorel winter boots with felt liners (ouch). All you had to do was show up with a smile for a free upgrade.

Time to jump into the Wayback Machine and take a look at part of my personal journey with Snowboarding. It all started at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH. After a lifetime in Winter Sports I have collected many things. Here is one. Snowboard magazines from 1982 to 1999.

International Snowboard-November 1987 issue to September 1990

Transworld Snowboarding-Fall 1987 to December 1992

Snowboarder-Winter 1988 to December 1990. Plus one issue from Summer of 1999

SnoBoard- from 1993 and1994

Three Local Magazines. Vermont Life 1982, Northeast Snowboard Magazine 1989 and New England Snowboarder 1990

Fresh and Tasty "The First and only women's snowboarding Mag"-November 1995 to February 1998

Well I can't say I'm to surprised. This is going to upset a lot of locals. It has been a private playground for years. Things can only stay under the radar for so long. Who know there's probably a silver lining.

In an effort for sanity I have bee purging things like old T-shirts. Before this become a rag, it has a story.

The Stoli Bartender's cup 1993 was epic. We went to the race. I think there were 5 or 6 of us on the team. I was never a bartender, but the rules were loose. There was problem with the timing. We ended up in second place. Many thought we had won. Tempers flaired. I personaly didn't mind so much.

Fast forward to the Apres. There are cocktails and snacks. Then comes the awards. We recieve our giant 2nd place trophy. Of course it is built around a 5th of vodka. It never came to me that it was real, but to a certain bartender named Greg it did. He qu**ky took the trophy apart and in moments we are all drinking vodka out of the bottle. The other teams see this and apart comes all the trophys. Needless to say. things got out of hand. Way out of hand. There was even a fight over the timing. Like a 10 person fight. Some how we all made it home.
